SuperQueeros! for April 4, 2018

Julie reunites with Karolina, Iceman is back in X-Men Gold, and the Batgirls are back in Gotham! It's a week for reunions for all of your favorite... SuperQueeros: all that's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer in comics today!

Runaways #8
Julie Power is in town! And Karolina's long distance gf is just in time, because Molly's new school friend is up to some shady, Alice-in-Wonderland-esque schemes! The team is going to need all the allies they can get.

New Mutants #2
Rictor and the rest of Karma's team of monster hunters are hunting a killer in the arctic while something or someone hunts them. Plus, what face from their past is about to resurface?

SuperQueeros! for March 14, 2018

It's Halloween in March! Rictor joins a monster hunting squad, Proteus possesses people, and Xena and Gabrielle are split apart! Horror is all around our... SuperQueeros: all that's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer in comics today!

The New Mutants: Dead Souls #1
Rictor joins Magik's team of cryptid-hunting, curse-breaking mutants! Strong Guy, Wolfsbane, and Boom Boom round out the cast of characters ready to light up the darkest corners of the Marvel U to help Magik achieve her goal! Speaking of goals, Magik seems to have left some details off of the mission statement... it can't be too bad, right? Ilyana's secrets are typically benign.

Xena #2
Leaving Athens, Xena and Gabrielle are torn apart by circumstance!

Astonishing X-Men #9
Proteus is going bonkers and possessing team members! Can Mystique and the rest of the team save the world from a resurrected super-mutant?

X-Men Blue #23
While the original 5 are out in space with Venom, Bloodstorm and Jimmy are the last line of defense against the new Hellfire Club: the White Queen, Bastion, Miss Sinister, Havok, and... Malice!

Suicide Squad #37
Hack knows her killer, and now she's out for blood!

Transformers: Lost Light #16
Rodimus and crew have arrived! But the promised land is a little less than was promised...

Wonder Woman #42
Darkseid's plan to command the Amazons continues!

SuperQueeros! for September 19th, 2012

At Dragon Con this year I went to an academic analysis of the racial make-up of and queer representation in the JL, Avengers, and X-men. The study only counted people as queer if they were explicitly so, i.e. if they were out. A lot of the books I'm covering this week don't necessarily feature explicitly queer characters, so I'll let you know who's what and why;

Batwoman #0
Kate Kane. The most awesome out lesbian ever. Sorry Ellen, sorry Karma, but Kate has a bat on the bottom of her shoe, so there's not really any competitsh. Anyway, this issue promises to reveal "how Kate shed her life of excess and disgrace." Didn't we already saw that in Detective Comics a few years ago? Eh, if there's one thing I've learned from Lost and Once Upon a Time, it's that you can always tell an audience the same backstory multiple times, as long as you tell it well. And with J.H. Williams III on EVERY aspect of this book (art, cover, AND writing), I'm pretty sure that's what we're about to get!

Avengers Academy #37
It's the last issue in the Final Exam storyline! And with Striker (out, gay brat) permanently scarred and Lightspeed (out, bi rainbow) ever in a state of moving on, will our heroes make it out of the Academy, or stick around for its new AvX status quo?

Hellblazer #295
John Constantine definitely dated a dude for a bit. He's married to a lady these days, though, so I'm not sure whether he identifies as queer, or if I should read that label onto him since he is, in fact, fictitious and not a real person.

X-Factor #244
Rictor and Shatterstar are totes boyfriends. Maybe they will even be in this issue!

New Mutants #49
My hero, lez-brarian Karma, was killed a couple of issues ago. Since this is the second-to-last issue of this run of New Mutants, I figure they'll bring her back this month so that all the straight characters can have some denouement next month.

True Blood #5
This book is on here because it is POSSIBLE that Lafayette will make an appearance. Also, they're looking into some villain's past this issue, and I'm assuming its a vampire and that AT SOME POINT Alan Ball made him/her sex a dude/lady (in a dream or otherwise). So Laffs probs not in this issue, but somequeer might be...

Wonder Woman #0
Is Wonder Woman queer? I think it's canon that she's had lady-friends, but I also don't think she identifies as queer (do they even have a name for queer-ness on Themyscira?). So take your pick of whether or not she's a friend of, or friendly with, Sappho.

Sword of Sorcery #0
No one has told me there will be queers in this book, but if there are no gays in "Gemworld" then there is no justice! #fingerscrossed

SuperQueeros! for August 15th, 2012

Wonder Woman strikes twice this week, Julie Power has no power (I blame the derecho [actually, that's a great code name...]), and maybe we'll meet back up with the boys from XFI! Plus Constantine, Karma, Daken, and Mystique!

EDIT 2!!! THERE ARE SO MANY SUPERQUEEROS THIS WEEK! Check out Batman #12 for the awesome adventures of Cullen Row and his amazing sister, Harper Row! It looks like Harper is lining up to be the next Oracle, but in a punk-Gaga-in-the-sewers kind of way!

EDIT!!! Kevin and Clay are in Life with Archie #22!!! Will the Archie comics cave to the new cliche of killing the queer of color????

Batwoman #12

J.H. Williams III is back on art!! Batwoman continues her crusade against the motley group of monsters she faced in the last 6 issues, but this time she's taking them on one at a time. First up is the disgusting and dangerous Bloody Mary who has holed herself up in, where else, an abandoned Hall of Mirrors! Which raises the question to me, who abandons a hall of mirrors? Shouldn't those have a significant salvage value????

PLUS, in order to fight this legendary urban legend, Batwoman enlists the help of a werebeast and the master of legends herself, Wonder Woman!!!!!!

X-Factor #242
Darwin is back! Rahne's baby is back! Strong Guy is a Bad Guy! Will we meet back up with the odd, odd threesome of Rahne, Rictor and Shatterstar? Fingers crossed, but either way Peter David is going to work his usual magic this week! #fanboi

Wonder Woman #12
Apollo has come for Zeus's throne, and Diana is the only thing standing in his way! But the solicit mentions something about Wondie needing to protect her closest friend? And Zola gives birth?! And it's not human?!?!?! (I mean, duh, it's a demigod, but the solicit says it's "not what we would expect." What does one expect a demigod to look like? I'm going to cross out "Zeus" and "Jamie Madrox" though, since those are too obvs)

Avengers Academy #35
Lightspeed has been depowered, Striker has been conscripted into EVIL, and Big Zero and the other Young Masters of Evil are being, well, also evil!! How are the kids going to save the world when half of them are normies and the other half are being controlled by a criminal mastermind??? None of my final exams were ever this hard! #TWHS

Uncanny X-Force #29
X-Force versus Daken, Mystique, and the New Brotherhood of Evil Mutants! If EVA is Fantomex's CNS, does that make her a lesbian?

New Mutants #47
KARMA CAMEO!! (If not more!) Everyone is coming back from the dead these days, and the original Hellions are no exception (twice)! Hopefully Shan and Sam will stick around for more than just dinner though!

Hellblazer #294
Seance with a dead sister, another nephew-committed murder, and the family cult? "Curse of the Constantines" marches on!

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

SuperQueeros! for July 11th, 2012

New Mutants #54
That Leg Better Shoot Bullets Now.
Karma's back! Well, grisly Karma from the future. With crazy Warlock armor? Oh, time travel... That robot leg better do something now though!

BtVS Season 9: Freefall #11
Summers looks good in a suit!I love that this book is basically the Summers girls and a rotating cast of the Buffy-verse's catalogue of queer characters. Kennedy takes her turn at the plate this storyline with a job offer for the Buff-ster: bodyguard!

Demon Knights #11
I have consistently forgotten that Madame Xanadu, bi seer-supreme, is in the book. Shame, shame, shame on me. :( This issue everyone is turned into a demon!

Before Watchmen: Minutemen #2 (of 6)
I am so excited for this book. It feels like there are 50 queer characters, all of them compelling and effed up, but none of them blown up on a train. Please pay attention, rest of the comic-verse.

Superboy #11
Superboy house-hunts while Bunker helps him wallop a Decepticon. Bunker, you are living my dream.

SuperQueeros! for January 18th, 2011

It's a slim week, but we get the next installment in one of the New 52's best books, Wonder Woman!

Wonder Woman #5
Woah, what? Evidently Wonder Woman lives in London??? So... Why is she chilling with Steve Trevor, American, over in Justice League? Woof, this new universe... so confusing! ANYWAY, some more gods enter the picture and they are far from happy. Diety sibling fight is go!

Hellblazer #287
Wonder Woman is returning to London and, evidently, chasing John out! He's headed to Hell this issue. Evidently he's doing a favor for his niece (something about a gangster who's John's father-in-law?) that will involve old enemies, demons, angels, and aquariums. So, you know, PaRtAy!

Hack/Slash #12
The first issue of "Monster Baiting" finds our heroes on a tropical island, searching for a cure for slashers. There are just so many places to go with this... But I hope Samhain has to wear "skimpy outfits" too! That way real life slashers of every variety will have something to work with!

New Mutants #36
Did anyone pick up issue #35? Do we know if Blink is actually dating that lady rocker or if that was just a clever cover? Either way, it's Blink's last issue with the New Mutants, so pick it up and see what happens!

Monday, December 12, 2011

SuperQueeros! for December 21st, 2011

I'm on vacation next week, so here's a quick run-down of the superqueeros coming out on the 21st!

Wonder Woman#4
AMAZING AND PERFECT BOOK.

Daken: Dark Wolverine #18
BEAT DOWN.

X-Factor #229
This book is so crazy atm.

Hellblazer #286
Constantine finally gets his coat back!

New Mutants #35
Is Blink bi?

Monday, November 14, 2011

SuperQueeros! for November 16th, 2011

EDIT: Did you catch what Clarice said at the end of New Mutants today? That she was "Tina's new girl"??? Is Blink gay now? Is Blink+ Karma a canon-able pairing that will bring my fav lesbrarian back into the superhero fold??? So many questions!!!

X-Factor #227
"In this issue a member of X-Factor dies."

And that's all she wrote. But for those of you who haven't read the preview I can say that the baddie they're battling eats souls, so all signs point to the death of the only soul-less character in the book. Though this is a Peter David book so that death might not be left-field enough... Either way, this Wednesday is THE WEDNESDAY!

Wonder Woman #3
It's time for the big paternity reveal! By now I'm sure you've heard that Wondy is not simply of clay born in the DCnU, but have you heard who her papa is? Because a lot of characters haven't, and it's about to shake up the Pantheon! But will Diana's new family relations welcome her with open arms or with openly armed Minotaurs?

Justice League #3
Wonder Woman makes her first JL appearance. So far we haven't seen Diana interact with much of the modern world in her own title, so it'll be very interesting to see how she interacts with the rest of the DCnu.

SuperQueeros! for November 2nd, 2011

This week is the Hack/Slashiest! First, issue #9 from last week is actually shipping this week (Sorry Hack/Slashers!), and then there's issue 4 of a Hack/Slash crossover event with "Eva" (don't ask me). And for the friends of Dorothy there's a relevant reimagining and the third issue of the new Stormwatch comic! Good times!

(EDIT: Breaking news! Karma IS in New Mutants #33!!!! So pick it up!)
(EDIT 2: Also, there's a new True Blood comic that's already on issue #3?! And has a basically-NSFW- cover?! [it's not actually NSFW, unless you think Greg Land is NSFW] This week is SUPER queero!)

Hack/Slash/Eva #4
It's the last issue of the miniseries that pairs a nubile slasher-killing girl and her muscle-bound monster-man back-up with a time-displaced nubile monster-killing girl and her muscle-bound monster-man back-up! Find out if either of these final-girl leading ladies survives the greatest crossover since you looked in the mirror this morning, only at your local comic book store! (Note that for all my snide remarks this could actually be a good book: I haven't read it. But rest assured, this ain't no "Gert and Nico Raze the Patriarchy" so temper your expectations)

Stormwatch #3
What I gather from the solicit is that this issue has Apollo and Midnighter getting smashed and bashed while kicking the collective butt of the monster troops sent to invade Earth by a sentient Darwin-inspired, Apocalypse-esque Moon demon. But will they fall in love?????? #squee #buyit

Legend of Oz: The Wicked West #1

What's the land of Oz without the yellow brick road? Well, it's a lot more like the wilds of Kansas! And if there's anyone who knows the Kansas back country like the back of her hand, it's Dorothy Gale, cowgirl.

Monday, July 25, 2011

SuperQueeros! for July 27th, 2011

Ladeez Week! Karma and the ambiguously lesbian women of the DCU grace your local comic book store this week, and I'm looking forward to all three books!

New Mutants #28
Karma is back on the team!!!! So it looks like that whole "New Team!" mumbo jumbo that the solicits were spouting at the beginning of this last storyline were just that: gibberish. The team hasn't changed, we just have an stationary unit and a mobile unit. Unsurprisingly, Karma is in the stationary set. But that means that she's one of the five New Mutants featured this week! Woo!!! Also, Dani brings in a psychologist to help Nate deal with being a reasonable not-Gary-Stu. Sweet!

Wonder Woman #613
It's the second to last Wonder Woman comic before the DCnU and this month we get New Wondy versus Classic Wondy (who we all know is Nemesis in disguise because we all read this book, riiiiight?)! Anyway, I'm excited for this storyline to resolve and usher in a new, awesome-r era of the Wonder Woman mythology. Hopefully we'll get some ability-to-alter-costume into the new power set/status quo. Because sometimes you want to wear star-spangled Spanx, and sometimes you don't!

Gotham City Sirens #25
The second to last issue of this dream team-up!!! Honestly, this is one of the few books that I think is being wronged by the re-launch. Batman has always had mind-warping villains, and these three ladies are in Gotham City's top ten. But the solicits promise that we won't be disappointed: the secret that's been haunting this little family for over two years is going to finally come to light! And you know how much smashing it takes to break down the walls around a secret! #lookingforwardtosmashing

Monday, July 11, 2011

SuperQueeros! for July 13th, 2011

While there's probably only one title this week that will feature a queer character in any significant capacity, I'm including two others in the hopes that their 'queero will make a cameo:

EDIT: ALPHA FLIGHT #2
My comic book retailer gave me Alpha Flight #2, not Daken #11. So either he got shorted Daken or the shipping information I got this from was wrong! Daken: Dark Wolverine #11
Are there any other queer characters with their own on-going solo title? Even though he's another villainous queer, Daken is the most interesting superqueero around these days, and Rob Williams' run on this title isn't changing that any time soon. This issue sees the escalation of the plots introduced last issue: Daken gets nasty with his new closeted beau/tool, the serial killer gets stabbier, and the cop on the cover gets wrapped further in a web between the two of them.

New Avengers #14
I've read that Victoria is getting a little antsy playing the good guy and is double-agenting between the Avengers and the remains of H.A.M.M.E.R. The solicit for this issue says that the New Avengers and the Avengers are teaming up to deal with Fear Itself, though, so I'm not sure how Hand's double-dealing would feature in this issue. Either she's front and center, making some under-the-table meetings that will screw with her teammates, or she's sidelined this issue. Only one way to find out: flip through it in your comic book store and buy it if you see pink highlights!

New Mutants #27
So Karma's on the cover and on the first page, but if she's in this story at all you can color me purple and call me "Indra". I think Anole and Northstar on that first page too, and they're not even a part of this team! ANYWAY, it's New Mutants vs Sugar Man in a bid to free X-man, so hopefully they'll bring Karma in so that this isn't a snooze-fest. #AoAisboring

SuperQueeros! for June 22nd, 2011

I just passed my latest actuarial exam yesterday (woo!) and crunch time these past few days didn't leave me much time to blog. But here’s what’s new today!

Hack/Slash #5

Did you know that this book is about a nubile monster slayer and her muscle-bound, silent, Frankenstein/bodyguard/father-figure? And that she's bi??? I so did not see that coming (this is my sarcasm face)! But until I'm corrected (See Tarot, Witch of the Black Rose), I'm going to assume that Hack (the eponymous bi character. Good name, right? [this is my earnest face. I like a strong name for a female character!]) is a complete and fully formed character honestly exploring/experiencing her sexuality. I've heard good things about this book, namely that it's about upending the standard victim/killer formula of slasher films. If anyone has read a bit of it, let us know what you think!

New Mutants #26

A new arc, a new direction, and a new team! Since the last issue ended with Cannonball, Karma, Face, and Magik all either in jail or the hospital, signs aren't looking good for their inclusion on the new team. So flip through the issue before you buy it: I love the New Mutants, but I only buy New Mutants when Karma's on the team.

Justice League of America #58

Obsidian's crossover with the JLA continues! Eclipso's still being a douche, so Todd's going to infiltrate the enemy camp and bring the smack down from within! And what with the whole DCnU not showing any of the JSA, I'm a little nervous that this'll be the last Obsidian story for a long, long time...

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

SuperQueeros! for May 11th, 2011

We've got two definites in terms of queer visibility this week, and two comics that might feature their queer characters but have previews that don't bode well. First the good news!

Birds of Prey #12
The Question guest stars alongside the Huntress as Renee and Helena team up to take out some of Gotham's crooked cops. Huntress also has a question for Renee, but we don't see what it is in the preview. Could Helena be recruiting Renee for the Birds? Or is this a more personal matter? Only one way to find out... #buyit

Daken: Dark Wolverine #9
You just can't pin Daken down, can you? Almost immediately after turning X-23 over to her villainous makers, Daken was pulling a rescue of the lady-clone of his father. And seconds after that double-crossing liberation, the comic went all Resident Evil and turned into the stabby slashfest (not that kind of slashfest) we expect from Wolverine's clones and offspring. So how will this tale conclude? Will Daken and X part on good terms? Or is this the start of some even more complex family relationships? Collision, and Liu's run as writer, ends here!

Possible Cameos
New Avengers #12 is mostly a flashback to "the first Avengers" (read: retconned origin story), but we could get some Victoria Hand if they set any scenes in the present day. New Mutants #25 is the first Post-Age of X issue, but the preview doesn't show Karma (or Magik) in the opening scene. Hopefully she'll make an appearance, but I'm not holding my breath. Though, to be fair, I am totally buying this issue anyway...

Monday, April 25, 2011

SuperQueeros for April 27th, 2011

Daken, Karma, and some hope for a few cameos are the queers in comics this week:

X-23 #9
Daken has quickly turned the tables on this little family reunion and now X and Gambit are in the clutches of the villainous hottie's henchpeople. Will X be able to escape from the men who made her? Will Gambit's team-up with Tyger Tiger liberate them both? And Daken wasn't in the preview... I wonder what he's plotting...

New Mutants #24
It's the end of the Age of X! Will X destroy the mind of every hero in its clutches, or will Legion, his dad, Karma, and the rest of the X-Men emerge victorious? We know that Frenzy, Cyclops' romantic partner in the Age of X, will become a major character in X-Men: Legacy next month, so what does that mean for everyone's memories? Will everyone remember AoX or will it only be Frenzy or the cast of Legacy? Only one way to find out! #buyit

Age of X: Universe #2
Plus this week we get the conclusion to what is essentially X's super-violent Avengers fanfiction. Given that this is just a imagined history perpetrated by a mental construct (i.e., nothing's at stake in 616's reality) and we know that the Avengers don't appear in the earlier AoX chapters, I'm guessing that the Avengers meet an untimely demise in this issue. But watching the X-men crush the Hulk, the Winter Soldier, the Invisible Woman, Spider-Woman, and Iron Man's re-animated corpse is gonna be frakking awesome!

Wonder Woman #610
Diana has finished her trek through her past selves with Dr. Psycho which means one thing: it's time to bring the pain to the Morrigan! And with the next three issues' covers feature a mash-up of old and new Wondy, so it seems like we'll be seeing the old Diana more and more! The JMS story begins its final act this week; be sure to jump on for the beginning of the end of Wonder Woman's new beginning!

Monday, March 7, 2011

SuperQueeros! for March 9th, 2011

Superqueeros! is a list of comics published this week that feature LGBTetc. characters. As always, let me know if I've missed anybody!

But first a note: evidently, Veronica #205 is shipping this week, not last week. Kevin Keller!

X-Men: Legacy #246
Age of X Karma (who looks like a silver version of Ruby Rose) is back as she and her fellow killers, the New Mutants Moonstar, Warlock, Sunspot, Magma, and Dust, work to track down Legacy a.k.a. Reaper a.k.a. Rogue. Hopefully we'll get some epic battling on her part, given that this version of Karma evidently has no ethical qualms with unleashing her abilities. Also, Anole appears as an unconscious body on page two so... yay?

Wonder Woman #608
Wonder Woman takes on Cheetah and Silver Swan! Jason and I have talked about how much we LOVE this reimagining of the WW rogues gallery, and Silver Swan seems like she would make an AWESOME addition, but she wasn't one of the three recreated villains from two issues ago. Still, the solicit says she'll be in the book fighting Wonder Woman, so it looks like were getting Silver Swan's origin this issue too!

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

Superqueeros! for January 26th, 2011

All the queers in comics this week, at your fingertips. And if I miss one, let me know!

New Mutants #21
Zeb Wells' two years writing on New Mutants has been about getting to this point: Elder Gods are attacking Earth, the X-Men (and everyone else) has failed at keeping them at bay, and it's up to Karma to activate humanity's only hope, Professor X's son Legion, without turning on his villainous tendencies as well. This is what Illyana came back to prevent, this is what this book has been building up to for two years, and this is the last chapter before Age of X! Definitely a must read.

X-Men: To Serve and Protect #3
Storm becomes a pseudo-Thor again! Blink gets a story!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kitty looks for a cure at the Baxter Building! And Chris Yost's AWESOME (I know, I too am shocked!) Rockslide/Anole story enters it's second half! Seriously, these X-Men short story collections are some of the best X-stories out there, and they almost always include an LGBT hero. Plus, Anole and Rockslide are so awesome together and I think that this story, along with Young X-Men, is going to be a defining story for their relationship. This is the book I'm most looking forward to this week!

Chaos War #5
The final chapter of Chaos War! Expect a cameo from Northstar as he and the rest of Alpha Flight join the final fight against the Chaos King. I haven't been following this mini, but I hear that it's a great story that revitalizes the deities of the Marvel U, which sounds like a superheroic task in and of itself. Whatever the case, any book with Alpha Flight or Northstar in it has to be amazing. It's called the Canada Effect, and it means you should pick this title up. ;)

Monday, December 27, 2010

Superqueeros! for December 29th, 2010

Happy New Year's Eve! Hopefully you survived any family, vacations, or Snowagnaröks that came your way this past week, because we've got some winners shipping this week! Though three of the four are comics that I reported as shipping earlier in the month... Looks like comics can get held up by winter weather too!

Gotham City Sirens #18
This is the only comic I HAVEN'T previously reported as shipping, and it's also the comic with the most amazing cover art! GCS is finishing their storyline pitting Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Zatanna, Catwoman, and Tahlia Al Ghul against each other! Everyone is struggling to either find out or continue to conceal the identity of Batman, information that Catwoman has managed to convince her compatriots that she DOESN'T have. Will Selina be able to survive being the focus of the most powerful players in the Bat-verse???? Or will this be Selina's next mental derailment?

Also this week, we get:
AND

Superqueeros! for December 22nd, 2010

HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND KWANZAA!!!!!! The comic book industry can sense when you're about to get gift cards to your local comic book store (call it a Spectacular Spider-Man Sense) and so they're throwing caution to the wind and inundating the market with new comics on Wednesday. I'm serious: things about the get crazy. So who's gay on Wednesday?

Wildcats #30

Did you read The Authority #29? Do you know who the new Doctor is? Are you ready for The End of All Things (Wildstorm)? This is THE ISSUE, guys! Apocalypse came to Wildstorm and it's about to be retconned, solved, or otherwise resolved as we meet the fastest Doctor ever to hold the title! Expect Rainmaker, Apollo, and Midnighter cameos, as well as EVERY OTHER WILDSTORM CHARACTER EVER. If Christmas is about family, then this is the most Christmas-y comic you'll read this month! #soexcited

New Mutants #20

TEAM UP. We all know that Karma is the most important New Mutant (certainly the most interesting), but FINALLY the universe agrees. With every other New Mutant held captive by the Purgatory Babies, Karma and Magik are going to rally Utopia and save their friends! Well, unless they're too late. Then the world is going to end. And in Marvel there's no Doctor to fix everything when your planet gets turned into a hell-dimension. #whoops!

Uncanny X-Men #531

Quarantine continues! E'erybody on Utopia is sick! Wolvie is DYING! Rockslide is... basically over? How does a psychic entity get sick again? PLOT HOLES ASIDE, Northstar is going to be KICKING BUTT this month! As one of the 5 X-men outside of the quarantine, he, Dazzler, Pixie, Angel, and Storm are going to be putting the smack down on Sublime's latest home-made mutants and, hopefully, the Collective Man! People have criticized this storyline as being, basically, exactly what Grant Morrison did during New X-Men, to which I say: New X-Men was AMAZING!!!!! Don't knock a working formula! Daken: Dark Wolverine #4

Okay, so this book is called "Daken: Dark Wolverine" but, according to the solicit, Daken is going to be forging a new identity after faking his death last issue? Meaning that this comic book is about to NOT be about Daken, since he's presumably going to be selecting a new moniker, and is DEFINITELY not about "Dark Wolverine" (sooo 2009) ? So why does it retain the outdated name? PLOT HOLES ASIDE, Marjorie Liu and Daniel Way rock at writing, so this is going to be a ball-busting issue no matter who it stars. I wonder if Daken's going to refrain from using his claws in his new identity? The cover shows him fighting the FF; will Johnny et al. be able to recognize their former friend? And what is the next step in Daken's plan for world conquest???

Honorable Mentions after the cut!
Wonder Woman #605

Diana vs The Morrigan! The solicit tells us that Diana is facing off against one of the three Morrigan, and Wikipedia tells us that there is no definitive story to that. Evidently in Latin texts morrigans are scary evil monster ladies and in Ireland it's a proper noun that refers to either a war goddess or a trio of goddesses. Does this mean that for JMS's Wonder Woman she's defending her people and her religion against the very real attacks on them by other pantheons? There are more questions than answers here, but never have I been more excited for a Wonder Woman book than this month! Irish goddesses fighting the champion of the Greeks? This is what comics were made for!

X-Men: Legacy #243

As Jason noted, Bling! is one of the X-Men within the radius of Karima's wrath, so even though this book seems to be focusing more on Hope helping Julian deal with the anger he has over loosing his arms we may get some queer cameos! Also, Mike Carey is a god amongst scribes.

X-Men #6

This is the ultimate issue of X-men vs. Vampires! It's the mutants against Dracula, perhaps one of the X-Men's most classic conflicts. But this time there's an additional element: Jubilee is among the enemy! How will the X-men save one of their own without losing any more compatriots??? And will Bling! get to do some slaying???? #ToughSkinGang

SuperQueeros! for November 24th, 2010

It's Northstar Week! Not only is Northstar one-half of the un-quarantined X-men in Uncanny's creatively named "Quarantine" storyline, but Sasquatch's deal with the Great Beasts leads to Jean-Paul's inclusion in an awesome revival of the original Alpha Flight line-up for the Chaos War! Also, as if that weren't enough, Lafayette tells his story in the True Blood mini, the Wildcats' penultimate issue hits stores, and one of the New Mutants falls to the Inferno Babies! Plus GCS and Madame Xanadu! This is the best Thanksgiving EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chaos War: Alpha Flight
The most awesome Northstar-featuring comic this week (imo) sees the revival of his deceased teammates as they get one issue to help bring down the Chaos King. The premise for this event's tie-in books is: every living person is asleep and defenseless, so deceased heroes have been revived to fight an onslaught of attacking gods. I'm not sure if these characters stay relevant to the storyline after this one-shot, but whether or not they do I'm excited: I've not read any of the original Alpha Flight run and now, just like Marina, Vindicator, Guardian, and Shaman, I get a second chance!

Uncanny X-Men #530
If Chaos War: Alpha Flight is the most awesome Northstar-inclusive title this week, then Uncanny X-men is the most fabulous. The "Quarantine" storyline is, essentially, that Anole and the kids get sick (ANOLE ALERT!) and Utopia is quarantined from the outside world. Meanwhile, stuff starts going down outside the island, and the sick mutants start losing their powers. Where does Northstar come in to the equation? Well there are only two mutants NOT on Utopia when the quarantine starts: Dazzler and Northstar. Yup, we're about to get a full story arc of a super-diva and her super-GBF kicking butt all over San Fransisco. Who said all the X-Gays were metaphors only? #awesome #buyit

EDIT: Okay, Northstar and Dazzler aren't the ONLY un-quarantined X-Men. But 20% gay is still very gay!

True Blood #5
Lafayette's story! It's finally here! The second-to-last issue of the True Blood mini is out this week and we finally get to hear some of what Lafayette's been hiding. If you've been missing the fabulous fry cook while TB is off the air, this is the book for you. Plus, if you like Ryan Kwanten's Jason in compromising positions this book features just that sort of tale too!

Wildcats #29
Everything ends in #30! With one issue to go before everything hits the fan expect this issue to be a game-changer. Who will be the new Doctor? Will Apollo smash more golems like a blond Hulk? And is the ship headed toward Earth the Carrier or something worse????

New Mutants #19
This is the end of "Fall of the New Mutants" but it's definitely not the end of the Project Purgatory storyline! One of Marvel's Mutants is "fallen" and "no longer a part of the New Mutants" by the end of this issue, but I have a feeling that will play heavily into our heroes' successful counterstrike next month(s). Whatever happens, however, this issue is looking to be a turning point for our heroes as they're pushed to the max to overcome the overwhelming force that is: The Purgatory Babies! #KarmaKickingButt
