SuperQueeros! for January 22nd, 2013

Though this is usually a strong week in the month for superqueero's, today we bid adieu to one of my favorite books of the past year, FF.  We'll have to console ourselves with a super-large final issue and all of this week's other... SuperQueeros: all that's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual, transgender, and queer in comics today!

FF #16

It's the end of the ride for Tong's Fantastic Four stand-in team! I'm sure we'll get Tong in whatever Fantastic Four series comes out next, but for the fans of Shulkie this may be the last time you see Jenn in a while. Oh, and the plot of this one is that Antman channels Leslie Nielsen and takes down the Doom who took his daughter away from him (and the rest of the world by killing her).

Astonishing X-Men, J.H. Williams III's run on Batwoman, and now Supurbia: All the best books of the last three years seem to be coming to a conclusion this month!!! This week we wrap up the second volume of Grace Randolph and Russell Dauterman's amazing and innovative take on the superhero supergroup with Supurbia (Vol 2) #12. The solicit says that this issue focuses on the great granddaddy of the Prophets, so there may not be any John Ka in this issue. But they do give a name to that weird face-frame that so many costumes from the '90s had! They call it a "crown shield". I call it "needs more spirit gum".

While it's unclear if this book has any queers outright, it is written by Gail Simone and has a variant cover from basically all your fav women illustrators. So if no queer characters are introduced, at least you know it will be awesome!

Evidently this issue is going to be a double-sized conclusion to the first arc of the new season. That's two double size issues all at once! I wonder if that means that the trade will only be issues 27 and 28... ANYWAY IS THAT HISAO/JUN ON THE COVER WTF I THOUGHT HE WAS DEAD! And, most importantly, is he gay like his twin?

Wiccan and Hulkling might show up in this book, or it will be about the twenty-something experience at a desk job. So, basically, you can't go wrong with this one!
