SuperQueeros! for November 26, 2014

Not a lot of comics this week, but what there are feature a few familiar 'queeros that we haven't seen in a while.  SuperQueeros: all that's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual, transgender, and queer in comics today!

Amazing X-Men #13
Finally, some Anole! Nightcrawler and Northstar leap to the rescue as Anole's deepest fears run amok in NYC! But what could a perennial fan favorite like Anole truly fear?

Earth 2: World's End #8
Constantine joins the fight! Now if only he and Alan Scott would share some sexual tension, all my hellblazingest dreams would come true!

Prophet Strikefile #2
More of John Ka's friends and enemies make their debut in this encyclopedia of the Prophet-verse.

Superqueeros! for June 18th, 2014

Willow Rosenburg, Kate Kane, Morph-when-he's-standing-next-to-Jean-Grey... This week is a copper-headed 'queero extravaganza! SuperQueeros: all that's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual, transgender, and queer in comics today!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 10 #4
The Draculation continues! Count D has the new rule book on vampires and he's looking for some wicked cheats! Can the Scoobies save their tome and the one Scooby who has fallen to Dracula's dark thrall?

Batwoman #32
The pantheon of Kate's friends-turned-thieves continues to expand as her ex, a re-imagined Nocturna, makes her new 52 debut!

Uncanny X-Men #22
The X-Men continue to take the fight to the master of the new Sentinels!

Wonder Woman #32
Diana continues to battle her relatives. Plus, following in the footsteps of Cronus and Hades, who will consume their kin next?

X-Men #15
It's war for the X-Men as the school comes under attack and Jubilee takes a pivotal part. Plus,  Anole in the back-up story! (I guess his graduation didn't stick?)

SuperQueeros! for January 25th, 2012

So many books this week and this is the only day I'm in the office! Okay, here's a quick run down of the SuperQueeros in stores this week:

Alpha Flight #8
It's the end of the series and the resolution to the Master of the World's machinations! Will Northstar save his boo? Will Kyle have awesome robot powers now???

Justice League Dark #5
Now that Constantine is working with the full team of the JLD will they be able to take out Enchantress? And at what cost??

Daken: Dark Wolverine #20
Resolution for the Donna Kiel relationship! Will Daken be redeemed? Gosh, I sure hope not!

Teen Titans #5
TAKE DOWN SUPERBOY! Can the team beat their own powerhouse? And is Skitter going to be the deus ex machina???

X-Men: Legacy #261
Anole has a cameo AND a line! In a really cute Blindfold scene! And Gambit is a jerk (of course).

SuperQueeros! for June 15th, 2011

I forgot I hadn't finished Superqueeros yet! Here's who we got:

Alpha Flight #1
Wooo!!! The first official Alpha Flight issue! More Northstar! More Kyle! More Canooks! This is a Fear Itself tie-in, so I assume that the team is going to be fighting a generic muscle bunny with a super-hammer and a grumpy disposition. Cool? The coolest. Either way, Jean-Paul = <3 #getit

Daken: Dark Wolverine #10
It all starts (again) here! Daken is in the hands of new scribe Rob Williams and he's moved to the West Coast in his bid for WORLD DOMINATION. What surprises does this new chapter have in store? How will Williams compare with Liu? From the preview it looks like he's going to be a little more verbal than Marjorie, and I think that could be a very good thing. #newdirection #jumpingonpoint

Hellblazer #280
The DCnU has reminded me that Bling! isn't the only grumpy bisexual in the comic-verse: John Constantine of Hellblazer is the classic world-weary noir character, albeit with an dash of the arcane and a queer twist. This issue sees his niece coming to kill him and take his place visit. I wonder what will happen?

X-Factor #221
Did you read last issue?! The art was crap, but the cameo at the end??? AWESOME! And this issue... kind of drops that whole thing in two pages. And then 'Star stares at Rahne naked? This issue had better go somewhere amazing because the first few pages took me from crazy to disappointing to confused. I mean, nekkid preggers ladiez, FTW!, but the last two panels on page four make it seem SO RANDOM. I guess I'll just chalk it up to 'Star being all cute and test-tube-baby-raised-to-be-a-gladiator. I still love this book, no matter how bad the art gets or how random the nude wolf-ladies. <3

Cameos:
X-Men #13
A preview I saw showed Anole. I'm not terribly interested in this storyline (yay, more lies?) but it at least seems to be good about including the whole of the X-community.

SuperQueeros! for March 9th, 2011

Superqueeros! is a list of comics published this week that feature LGBTetc. characters. As always, let me know if I've missed anybody!

But first a note: evidently, Veronica #205 is shipping this week, not last week. Kevin Keller!

X-Men: Legacy #246
Age of X Karma (who looks like a silver version of Ruby Rose) is back as she and her fellow killers, the New Mutants Moonstar, Warlock, Sunspot, Magma, and Dust, work to track down Legacy a.k.a. Reaper a.k.a. Rogue. Hopefully we'll get some epic battling on her part, given that this version of Karma evidently has no ethical qualms with unleashing her abilities. Also, Anole appears as an unconscious body on page two so... yay?

Wonder Woman #608
Wonder Woman takes on Cheetah and Silver Swan! Jason and I have talked about how much we LOVE this reimagining of the WW rogues gallery, and Silver Swan seems like she would make an AWESOME addition, but she wasn't one of the three recreated villains from two issues ago. Still, the solicit says she'll be in the book fighting Wonder Woman, so it looks like were getting Silver Swan's origin this issue too!

SuperQueeros! for February 23rd, 2011

Well after last week's drought it's nice to have some comic books to write about! This week we've got two X-titles and two possibly LGBT-related titles:

X-Men: To Serve and Protect #4
My favorite Anole storyline to date is coming to a close with the final issue of To Serve and Protect, the X-men's push to toe the line of the Heroic Age. The solicit has some grandiose teasers: "Friends become lovers! Lovers become enemies!" I don't know which relationships they're talking about and, worse, I don't have any hopeful hypotheses, but the conclusion to Anole's "X-Dudes!" is enough to make me buy any comic! #pickoftheweek

Uncanny X-Men #533
"Quarantine" enters it's fourth issue this week, which means Northstar's tenure on the premiere X-team is waning. Of course, with the threats of the Collective Man and Sublime's X-men both handily dispatched last month, the only thing on Northstar's "To Do" list may be his boyfriend Kyle. Now that's a comic worth $4!

Superqueeros! for January 26th, 2011

All the queers in comics this week, at your fingertips. And if I miss one, let me know!

New Mutants #21
Zeb Wells' two years writing on New Mutants has been about getting to this point: Elder Gods are attacking Earth, the X-Men (and everyone else) has failed at keeping them at bay, and it's up to Karma to activate humanity's only hope, Professor X's son Legion, without turning on his villainous tendencies as well. This is what Illyana came back to prevent, this is what this book has been building up to for two years, and this is the last chapter before Age of X! Definitely a must read.

X-Men: To Serve and Protect #3
Storm becomes a pseudo-Thor again! Blink gets a story!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kitty looks for a cure at the Baxter Building! And Chris Yost's AWESOME (I know, I too am shocked!) Rockslide/Anole story enters it's second half! Seriously, these X-Men short story collections are some of the best X-stories out there, and they almost always include an LGBT hero. Plus, Anole and Rockslide are so awesome together and I think that this story, along with Young X-Men, is going to be a defining story for their relationship. This is the book I'm most looking forward to this week!

Chaos War #5
The final chapter of Chaos War! Expect a cameo from Northstar as he and the rest of Alpha Flight join the final fight against the Chaos King. I haven't been following this mini, but I hear that it's a great story that revitalizes the deities of the Marvel U, which sounds like a superheroic task in and of itself. Whatever the case, any book with Alpha Flight or Northstar in it has to be amazing. It's called the Canada Effect, and it means you should pick this title up. ;)

Superqueeros! for December 29th, 2010

Happy New Year's Eve! Hopefully you survived any family, vacations, or Snowagnaröks that came your way this past week, because we've got some winners shipping this week! Though three of the four are comics that I reported as shipping earlier in the month... Looks like comics can get held up by winter weather too!

Gotham City Sirens #18
This is the only comic I HAVEN'T previously reported as shipping, and it's also the comic with the most amazing cover art! GCS is finishing their storyline pitting Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Zatanna, Catwoman, and Tahlia Al Ghul against each other! Everyone is struggling to either find out or continue to conceal the identity of Batman, information that Catwoman has managed to convince her compatriots that she DOESN'T have. Will Selina be able to survive being the focus of the most powerful players in the Bat-verse???? Or will this be Selina's next mental derailment?

Also this week, we get:
AND

SuperQueeros! for December 15th

I am HUGE X-men fan, so even though this week is lighter on queer characters than last week was, I'm super excited! More Anole this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus, just in time for X-mas, next week is going to be a comic book DELUGE. But until then...

X-Factor #212
Shatterstar Takes Las Vegas continues! Joined by Thor, X-Factor is preparing to confront Hela in her lair and dissent is starting to foment among the X-ranks. This is the start of a story thread that will see one member of X-Factor leave the agency: who will it be, why will it be, and what role do the machinations of the Norse Gods have to play in this decision? Just because it's the Heroic Age for Thor doesn't mean every mensch in tights has magically become super-boy scouts like Clark Kent! As usual, the awesome and angst-y X-drama starts here!!

X-Men: To Serve and Protect #2
Or, as I like to call it, Anole & Rockslide: To Snark and Pummel! Yup, we get the second issue of the X-Men's "Heroic Age" short story collection, and everyone's favorite lizard-boy is front and center. Rockslide and Anole have taken down the fringe forces of Mr. Negative's crime syndicate, which means that they've successfully tickled a sleeping dragon. Will the two teenage vigilantes be able to survive the full brunt of one of Spidey's most sinister rogues if the X-Men aren't waiting in the wings to save them?

Plus, the Stepford Cuckoos! And Spidey! #sweeeeet!

Scarlet Betch Episode 29

Hey betches!

Scarlet Betch is back at it again, keeping you updated on the latest in comic book news and reviews. Thankfully we dodged any technical difficulties and we're slowly getting a handle on this whole vlogging bit. Jason and Anthony give shout outs to Bruce Wayne - The Road Home: Batgirl, Archie Comics' Veronica 202, among others and talk in depth about this month's Wonder Woman and her confrontation with the Colonel, all things Anole in X-men Legacy and X-men: To Serve & Protect, and this month's Buffy, The Last Gleaming Part III.

Let us know what you think! Plus, any comics you think we missed in our coverage let us know! Send us a tweet @ScarletBetch or by email at scarletbetch@gmail.com

SuperQueeros! for November 3rd, 2010

If Halloween is "Gay Christmas" than this Wednesday is is GayGeek Boxing Day. Check out all the superqueeros this week!

X-Men: To Serve and Protect #1
In the heroic age the X-men are... cops? Vigilantes? It's a little unclear and while the title of this limited series implies the former, the preview of THE ANOLE STORY implies the latter. That's right: Anole + Rockslide, perhaps the only openly gay/straight bromance, are hitting the streets of San Fran to, well, serve and protect. But their style is less good cop, bad cop and more Leonardo and Casey Jones. Which actually makes this story MORE AWESOME. #pickoftheweek

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #39
It's the middle of the end and, if the cover is a spoiler, it looks like Joss may be going for the end-of-season main-cast-death. It appears that Dawn will be in mortal danger so... is he going for a positive or negative emotional effect? J/k, I love Dawn! But what are your thoughts? Think the Key is finally going to be put to good use? Would you miss Dawn if she were gone? Or is the cover to the right the answer to your every prayer?

The Authority #28
"Sarah Rainmaker will astonish". Okay, that was part of the solicit for this comic, so I think we all know what we need to do this week: #BuyThisComic. Also, space aliens, other characters, blah, blah, vampire emergency, blah, RAINMAKER. #SoExcited!!!!!!!!!

Secret Six #27
The girls are getting the best stories this week! Scandal gets to go head to head with Bane, her (unwanted?) surrogate father figure!!! Talk about character- AND action-driven plotting! Gail is certainly bringing her A game to this story arc: just look at the COVER! Don't miss out!

House of Mystery #31
The solicit for this issue says that the aftermath of the witches' war will be revealed, so Tursig might make an appearance. It's meant to be a stand-alone issue, though, so I'm not holding my breath.

SuperQueeros! for October 27th, 2010

X-Men: Curse of the Mutants - X-Men vs. Vampires #2
KARMA STORY! The traditional annual collection of X-Men character vignettes has rolled around to it's requisite queer story, and it's about KARMA! I've definitely been missing my monthly Karma-inclusive stories ever since New Mutants started ignoring its X-men to focus on Project Purgatory, so this is going to be like a rainstorm in the desert for me! And it's about her being in Weight Watchers (BEST NOD TO THE 80s EVER) and having a metal leg (THANK YOU FOR FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGING IT) and checking out the sexy ladies! So basically it's amazing. #getit

X-Men: Legacy #241
The conclusion to the Dubai story! Anole + Loa + butt-kicking = AWESOME. I can't wait to see what happens to Luz (is she going to become a cast member for the new book? Is she going to be an X-Ally, thereby mitigating or ending the threat of the Children of the Vault?) and how Magneto and Rogue end their trip together. I figure that they won't hate each other, given that Magneto is getting his own continuing series, but I'm also hoping they don't hook-up. Now that Rogue can control her powers she should go find some GOOD love interests! #Anole!!!

Wildcats #28
So the world is basically exploding around our heroes right now as Gaia tries to kill everything, Ladytron has resurrected a robot army to take on the Spirit of the Earth, and those not on damage control are trying to find a new Doctor quickly who can cure the planet and set things to rights. Midnighter has so far been MIA in this new storyline, but Apollo is at ground zero, fighting to keep Gaia at bay. Hopefully we'll get some character development for him this issue? #notlikely

JSA #44
New creative team!!! Obsidian isn't featured on the cover or the variant cover, so I'm not holding my breath for his inclusion in this title, but it was his last known team affiliation. Hopefully he's included and used, and the spotlight he and his father had last issue wasn't a farewell issue to placate fanboys and fangirls. #fingerscrossed

Wonder Woman #604
AWESOME! Another story arc resolution this week as JMS's first Wonder Woman tale closes out. NewDiana faces down the man who re-wrote reality and turned her world (and ours!) upside-down! I don't usually advocate misandry but, Diana, KICK HIM IN THE BALLS!

Madame Xanadu #28
It's the last of the Five Senses as Xanadu helps a chibopath (see Chew) who's starving from all the stories she's eating! MX continues to be a very entertaining read, though I'm not sure what aspect made it a GLAAD nominee last year... ALSO: next month is THE SIXTH SENSE!!!!!!!!

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

SuperQueeros! for September 29th, 2010

A much better showing this week when compared to last: two clans of ambiguously bi/gay women, two out and proud gay supes, and TORCHWOOD!
Torchwood #3
GARETH DAVID-LLOYD WROTE THE FIRST STORY! Everyone done swooning? Good: The tale involves Ianto (solo adventure?) meeting "a beautiful, deadly woman who may upend his life." So this looks like a prequel, but is it a pre-Lisa-the-Cyberwoman story or post-Cyberwoman? Is Ianto working for Torchwood One, or is this even earlier? There's only one way to find out! #buyit
(Also, Broken Part 3 is the back-up story and I think we are all eager for some inappropriately timed Ianto-Jack flirting!)
Wonder Woman #603
Last month JMS surprised us with one of the most kick-butt Wonder Woman stories I've read in a long while, and this month he adds to the growing mythology by introducing the monstrous Keres to fight Diana. Check out their wiki article here. Very exciting, no? Despite not featuring Anole, Ianto, or any visibly queer characters, this book is one of my most anticipated this month! #excited
X-Men: Legacy #240
The penultimate issue of the Dubai storyline, guest starring Anole! This'll mostly be watching Anole get his butt handed to him by the Children of the Vault until Luz steps in to save 'im (and the rest of the team), but any time in the spotlight is good time in the spotlight! Plus, maybe we'll get to see his camouflage powers interacting with Luz's light manipulation abilities!
JSA #43
Post-JLA crossover, Obsidian and his dad deal with the fall out. I am SO excited to finally get an Obsidian-centric story! Hopefully it will be a good one: I don't really know Obsidian beyond his sexuality, and, especially after putting him through the ringer, I think this book has an opportunity to redefine him as a person and a superhero. Also, maybe we will see something about his boyfriend?????
GCS #16
AWESOME CROSSOVER ALERT! Zatanna and Talia Al Ghul guest star as Catwoman is kidnapped, probably for her knowledge of Batman's identity. The December solicits are hinting at a potential secret tearing apart the Sirens: could this storyline - and Batman's impending return - be the end of this incarnation of the GCS??? It all starts here, folks!

Monday, August 23, 2010

SuperQueeros! for August 25th, 2010

I'm a proponent of using bisexuality to make storyline-flexible queer characters. By definition the lesbian and gay communities' romantic dramas are insular and often disconnected from our day-to-day interactions with the (majority straight) rest of the world. IMO, bisexuality is a great way to let new and old characters have a queer storyline, while not invalidating past romances or forbidding future non-queer couplings. Plus it fights bi-phobia! And if this week is any indication, it's a track that a few good writers are taking advantage of:

Dark Wolverine #90
It's the end of Dark Wolverine! Well, this series, at least! Stay tuned, though, as Daken moves from one eponymous solo series to another with next month's launch of Daken: Dark Wolverine #1!! (Oh, right, this month: find out how the "Dark Wolverine" segment of Daken's life ends! He totally flirts with a gay anti-mutant activist in the preview, so #hot and #thought-provoking!)

X-Factor #208
Rahne's back! And like any good storyline featuring pregnancy and bisexuality (#oxymoron) we get a pregnant-wolf-woman vs. cloned-alien-swordmaster betch-fight! It'll be like a flashback to Rahne's X-Force days (last month?), but with better writing! And, side note, isn't this baby NOT Rictor's? Like, isn't it some Norse wolf-god's spawnling? Layla Miller: Puppy Edition, subtitle: "I Smell Stuff"? Meaning Rahne should stick with her baby wolf-daddy, not break up my longest fan 'ship?

Anyway, back to the main plot, stuff with the Norse hell goddess Hela is going down or something. To paraphrase Pam Ravenscroft "Blah, blah, Norse emergency, blah."

X-Men: Legacy #239
ANOLE!!!!!!! LOA!!!!!!!!!!! KILLING ROBOTS!!!!!!! It's like the good old days of Kitty phasing through Sentinels all over again, but with more explosions and punching! This is one of my fav books on the market today, and it has Anole AND Rogue! (And Magneto and Loa and Indra!) #buyit

Wildcats #26
Blah, blah, magic emergency, blah. Apollo + Midnighter are in this book! They're not listed in the solicitation, and with a team this expansive they might not be in the book at all, but get it anyway! Because gay marriage is teh cutexorz!!!!!

Justice League of America #48
The end of the Starheart saga! A White Lantern reveal!!! Some Obsidian/Starman make outs? I don't think I remembered to get this month's issue of the JSA, but when last I left our gay boy and bi boy one was evil and one was unconscious. Plus they'll have to finish fighting Obsidian's dad before they can "have each other's adopted babies," but I've still got my fingers crossed! #wallacewellsrocks

Wonder Woman #602
Blah, blah, amazon-rape secrets, blah. Wonder Woman kicks some more guyz and stuff and finds out some scary thingz. I'm buying it, but there's been no indication of queerness, just butt-kicking. And the weirdest woman-in-the-refrigerator storyline evar. But what they're doing with an iconic character is interesting, if fated to be as fleeting as Superman's post-resurrection redesign.

Gotham City Sirens #15
Denouement and new storylines! Catwoman deals with the aftermath of her battle with her sister and Poison Ivy's new job takes an interesting turn! They say villains drive stories, and this is one of the best books out there, so Q.E.D., I guess. The Sapphism might be a little on the light side to warrant a place in this column, but by femme-fatalism (a new category of "awesome") it makes the post.

Madame Xanadu #26
Boys are smelly! Well, at least this boy is. Sammy's malodorous melodrama is the focus of this issue of the GLAAD-nominated comic. Will MX be able to help Sammy, or will this comic just stink?

Monday, July 26, 2010

SuperQueeros! for July 28th, 2010

The New:
X-Men: Legacy #238
As my personal fav X-person, Anole's comic this week gets top billing. Anole, Loa, Rogue, and Magneto accompany Indra back to India to find out what's got his parents in such a tizzy that they would beg their mutant son to come home. Meanwhile, a young, blonde girl interdimensional alien is about to break into 616 and spice things up even more! And, did I mention?, Anole is in this comic book! #BEST

Justice League of America #47
The JSA + JLA crossover continues in this, the third issue in the five-part crossover. Obsidian (and his dad) are still being controlled by the havoc-wreaking Starheart and it's up to the unaffectable members of the two super-teams to put them down! Hopefully they'll de-brain-wash Obsidian this month; I want to see him and Jade kick some butt together!

The Authority: The Lost Year #11
It's the penultimate issue of the long-awaited, Grant Morrison-planned storyline! The Authority have landed in a universe where they're world-ruling facists. Which, if you recall their take over of America, is a bit more like looking a mirror for The Authority than would make anyone comfortable. Either way, though, it's new Apollo-Midnighter goodness, so pick it up!

The Delayed:
Wildcats #25
Yeah, this didn't end up coming out the week I wrote about it. So pick it up this week!

The Questioning:
Detective Comics #827
So the solicit for last month told us that "Batwoman and the Question" were coming back this month. But the solicit for DC 827 is CLEARLY for a story about Batman, and there is no mention whatsoever about a Question (+ Batwoman?) back-up. It's still on my pull list, so I'll let you know if our two fav caped lesbian exes make an appearance or not.
Detective is all Batman! Not even a Question follow-up! BUT Renee isn't sitting on her butt! She pays a visit to Saint Walker in this month's Green Lantern, #56!!!!

Wonder Woman #601
If Gail Simone isn't writing Wonder Woman, is it still a story about a superhero from an island of lesbians? Especially if that island paradise was raped, razed, and turned to rubble? And is that elephant-riding hottie Achilles still alive/a homo? Only one way to find out, I guess! #Readon!

Gotham City Sirens #14
One of the best series to come out of the death of Batman, the GCS are facing potential break-up as a result of the meddling of their antagonists! Will these three questionably-close femme fatales break-up or make-up? And is that Talia Al-Ghul on the cover of next month's issue...? #spoilers?

Madame Xanadu #25
HEARING! The MX storyline about the senses continues as Spencer, a man gifted with extraordinary hearing, begins to pick up on some not-very-nice voices. Angry voices. Lust-filled voices. One might even say... demon voices! Can Madame Xanadu intervene in time or will Spencer be lost to the din in his head?

Monday, July 12, 2010

SuperQueeros! for July 15th, 2010

Wildcats #25
Last issue Zealot and Midnighter decided to throw down over Zealot's morally problematic baby-factory. This issue? PAYOFF. Of course, according to the solicit, it doesn't look like we'll settle the issue of who would win the fight because the fighting will probably stop when someone"gets caught in the crossfire". Hopefully that only happens after ten pages of @$$-kicking action, though!

X-Men: Hellbound #3
The conclusion of the most gay-friendly X-men storyline I've ever read! The conflicts have been set up: evil-ized Dazzler, Northstar, & Gambit vs not-evilized Cannonball & Anole, and Magik vs Pixie and a Demon. Things about to get CRAZY. I'm hoping that we find out more about Gambit's transformations, but that he still retains the ability to transform upon leaving Limbo, and that this issue will mark an end to Anole's asymmetry, either by his regrowing a twinkier, less awkward arm, or by his losing the left arm too. Also, I'd like a guest appearance by Dex-Starr, please?

The Authority: The Lost Year #10
This is where the end begins! The Authority have battled themselves across many multiple universes, but in this month's issue they come face to face with the most evil incarnations of themselves yet. You thought used car salesmen were bad? Well this Authority is an iron-willed fascist government, complete with internment camps and bad facial hair (I'm guessing)! Can Midnighter, Apollo, and the rest of the gang wrest power away from their crazy clones, or will we find out that the Authority we've been reading about in World's End is actually a bunch of inter-dimensional Nazi invaders???? Or maybe blah, blah, moral ambiguity, violence, character development, blah?

New Mutants #15
Remember Inferno? Yeah, I wasn't literate then either. But Zeb Wells does! (Or has a library card!) Because there's a platoon from Purgatory about to rain heck down on our recovering New Mutant heroes, and it ain't gonna be pretty! Though frequently side-tracked by the species-wide crossovers of the past six months, this is the storyline that New Mutants has been working toward. Why is Magik back? What alternate, horrible future is she trying to prevent? What nefarious purpose does Project Purgatory serve? What cool stuff will Karma's robot leg be able to do??? All this and more will be answered in these pages, people. All this, and MORE!

Monday, June 7, 2010

SuperQueeros! for June 9th

All the Queers in Comicdom, this week:

X-Men: Second Coming - Revelations: Hellbound #2 (of 3)
The gayest team of X-Men ever gathered continues on their quest to rescue the Limbo-lost Illyana Rasputin. But Gambit's mysterious dark side has been triggered by the demon dimension, and it does not look very friendly. Will Gambit save the team or smite them? Will Anole, or another X-man, lose another limb? And does Magik even NEED saving? The baddies haven't tied her up and, last I checked, she was a cruel and ruthless Darkchylde. This storyline is short, sweet, gay and PACKED with action. #GetIt

Secret Six #22
The end of the Catman revenge story! Watch half-naked boys and kick-ass lesbians knock the snot out of mercenaries, assassins, and other baddies that are badder (but not as bad-ass) as the band of bad guys we call the Secret Six. And thank Gail Simone for making all your dreams come true.

The Rawhide Kid #1 (of 4)
Is it just me, or is the Rawhide Kid kind of a Mary Sue? Except without the dying part? That opening scene in the preview? Whatever the case, he's one the oldest, most high-profile gay characters out there. Pick up his book if you like cowboys, comedy, or Queer Eye for the Straight Guy: Rawhide Kid is a consummate marksman, a flippant vigilante, and definitely not "masc looking for same." (Can you tell I was on Grindr this weekend? [You can tell.])

Honorable Mention:
House of Mystery #26
I love this book, but the queer content has been NON-EXISTENT recently. I'll upgrade it on Wednesday if this month has some gay trolling. Edit: THERE IS CUTE GAY CONTENT. Only for a panel, but still. Finally some gay troll page time!

Tuesday, May 18, 2010

SuperQueeros! for May 19th, 2010

The Who's Who of Comics' Queers (for this week ;) )!!

X-Men: Legacy #236
Maybe someone will give Karma a leg! Also, big dome, lots of killing about to start, destruction, violence, action, one of the best x-overs ever, blah, blah, blah. Let's get back to Karma! And Greymalkin. Whatever happened to him?

X-Factor #205
The Second Coming tie-in continues! Last issue saw a car full of main characters (all boys on a team with the Multiple Man) get shot to bits. Let's see if they survived (they did) and cross our fingers that Rictor gets to kick butt this issue!
Peter David is delivering a really good story with this tie-in! I was expecting some sort of lukewarm lip service to the event, but instead he's turing out one of the better X-Factor stories in the past year!

X-Men: Pixie Strikes Back #4
The end of the series! It's a little strange seeing Nightcrawler in action in the pages of this book, all the while knowing that he's good and gone in the main titles. Like seeing a blue, furry ghost. But his team up with Frost, Psylocke, Santos, and Anole unites some of the best X-characters under an author who is proving her mettle issue after issue! And ANOLE!

Justice League of America #45
Both Starman and Obsidian in one book!!! Yes, even though Obsidian is still trapped in an egg (WHAT?) in his own title, during the JSA's guest stint in the current JLA storyline he's alive and kickin' and trying to save his dad from being absorbed by his newly resurrected twin sister (don't ask)! Plus, with Todd's fine-ness and Starman's alien attraction to both genders (and shirtless-ness!), maybe there will be some cute flirt-y scenes during the Starheart catastrophe! #silverlining
