SuperQueeros! for June 3rd, 2015

The best part of reality-warping crossovers is the new starts for all our favorite 'queeros. This week is about resurrections, and frankly I'm freaking because so many are... SuperQueeros: all that's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual, transgender, and queer in comics today!

Midnighter #1
MIDNIGHTER IS BACK! And he's basically getting his Wolverine Origins treatment as he fights a bunch of escapees from the DCU version of Weapon X's Paradise in order to retreive the files of his pre-superqueero days. Come for the bloodshed, stay for finding out just who is Lucas Trent??? (And did he ever date Kevin Keller?)

Wolverines #20
The last issue! It's been five months, but Mystique is finally bringing back her beloved Destiny! And she might also be bringing back another familiar face.... Will it be Wolverine, the father of one of her new sons that she never seems to be raising? Or her secret husband, Professor X, the father of her other phantom-baby?

Years of Future Past #1
And if one Destiny weren't enough, we get another one in the alternate universe book based on Days of Future Past!

Archie #666
It's the "Sign of the Beast" issue, and the forces of Satan have gathered together to END ARCHIE COMICS! But it isn't all bad news: Kevin Keller gets a variant cover and Archie is going to relaunch next month. Take that, forces of evil!

X-tinction Agenda #1
Remember when Rictor used to be in at least one book every month? Yeah, those were good days... (Fun Fact: As a kid I had a HUGE crush on Rictor!) Anyway, he's in this book! W00t!

All New X-Men #41
The kids, including newly out Iceman, take on the Utopians!

Morning Glories #46
It's time for some independent study. That phrase has never seemed more ominous!

Wicked and Divine #11
Ragnarok ends, which means... a new beginning!

Superqueeros! for January 27th, 2010

Every Wednesday boys stumble over themselves to ask me what SuperQueeros! is and I say, "It's my weekly round up of what queer-inclusive comics are hitting the stands near you. If you think I've missed any, leave a comment and let me know." Then they swoon. ;)

Detective Comics #861

For the next three months we have double the Batwoman as she and Dick crossover into each other's titles. Detective promises to be as freaky as ever when Batman and Batwoman team up to stop a Cutter. The covers are still J.H. Williams III, but the interiors are going to be another artist because J.H. is working on the pages for Batwoman #1!!! So he's not gone, just promoted.

Batman and Robin #7

Finally, I get to write about Morrison's Batman and Robin! I look forward to this title every month, and now that Morrison's taking his stab at Batwoman, I'm twice as chuffed! My only reservation is that Morrison showed a strange POV on queer parents when he gave Jenny Quantum/Quarks (I can't keep them straight) the line "Uncle Apollo." YOU DON'T CALL ADOPTIVE PARENTS "UNCLE", GRANT. Hopefully that's all behind him and he can bring us a Batwoman as awesome as the first part of this series. EDIT: Morrison calls his take on Kate Kane, "the acid bubblegum version of the character."

X-Factor #201

Yay! Any day with a new X-Factor issue is a good day, and any day with Layla Miller teaming up with Dr. Doom and Mr. Fantastic to kidnap the Invisible Woman and take down X-Factor is AWESOME. I wonder how a fight between superqueero Shatterstar and Layla would go? Would even he lose to the woman who "knows stuff"? And, if she's the Layla Miller who gave all her memories to her past self, doesn't that mean that she shouldn't know stuff any more? For that matter, what has grown-up Layla been DOING since Decimation??? #answers!

X-Men: Legacy #232

Rogue + Magneto = OTP? That equation has always confused me, but there are a set of writers who thinks it's super-logical, duuuh. Judging from the cover and the preview, Carey's going to be taking his stab at this (arguably) classic pairing, but let's hope he doesn't skimp on the inclusion of Destiny in this story! Rogue's adopted mom would probably have a thing or two to say to Rogue about her choice in paramours. However, give that Mystique's age is both greater than Destiny's and undetermined, that advice might not be what we'd assume.

Wonder Woman #40

New Wonder Woman storyline! The cover looks like it features the five children of Ares (simply because there are five of them, not because they look particularly Ares-ian), so it'll be interesting to see if they are and, if so, what Simone's take on them will be. Traditionally they would be the children of Ares and Aphrodite; what would that mean for Wonder Woman, who is both Aphrodite's Violet Lantern and the perennial enemy of Ares? Simone is set to raise some interesting questions, she's been revitalizing this title to critical acclaim, the past few issues have been uber queer-inclusive, and, since this is a new storyline, it's a great time to pick up the title. Plus, an investment in any Simone title is an investment in shirtless hunks fighting, so it's not like there's a "lose" scenario here. #fabulous #fierce #fiiiiine

Gotham City Sirens #8

Oh GCS! You are the tease of all supervillain comics! The Riddler started out his life in comics as a man driven over the edge because he was a closet-case, but who knows if his current incarnation has any queerings of his sexuality. The similarly ambiguously sapphic Sirens are starting up a Riddler team-up/double-cross/something-messy, so jump in now to see what develops. If nothing else, it's four of the Bat's greatest villains all in one title. #win

Justice Society of America #35
JSA makes the list because Bill Willingham is a cool guy (on his twitter account), the preview really grabbed my attention, and eventually the team is going to save Obsidian and he'll become an active member. So if you want to follow this title's whole Obsidian-inclusive run, you technically want to grab this issue. Even though he's still an egg.

Superqueeros! for December 23rd, 2009

You know the schtick: I scour the solicitations each week for LGBTT-SAP...etc. characters and you guys make your pink dollar known. If you let me know when I've missed somebody, I'll edit the entry faster than Barry Allen on a sugar high!

Speaking of lesbians, this is Ladies Week at your comic book store! Hot on the heels of Bling!'s coming out last week in the pages of X-Men: Legacy, we have a jumbo week of SIX queer and queer-adjacent titles, all of whom heavily feature our female forces. So let's see who's gaying it up this week:

Detective Comics #860
The end of an era!!! This is the last issue of J.H. Williams III's AMAZING run on the interiors of this book, so if you haven't picked up a copy yet, this is your last chance (before the trade)! And for those of us who are now devout Williams-ites, make sure you don't miss out on what is sure to be another stunning issue. Batwoman dons her costume for the first time in this, the third piece of her origin story. My prediction? AWESOME. And for those of you still weeping over Williams' departure, rest assured that he'll be doing the cover art well into 2010, if not longer. Just think of him as Kate Kane's Jo Chen. #artistgasm

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Willow (One-Shot)
Speaking of Jo Chen, she's got half the covers of this month's BtVS issue, a Willow one-shot! I didn't use it on the side bar because I couldn't find a small version of it online, but rest assured that there is plenty of snake-goddess-on-Willow action basically everywhere in the book. Willow has gone through some of the most drastic changes (or at least drastically mysterious) since the end of season 7 and it's in this issue that we get some answers. I am more turned on by the prospect of this issue than if I woke up next to X-Factor's Rictor! #notreally #omgwillow!!!

New Mutants #8
Necrosha is scary! It's the New Mutants + Warlock (+ Doug?) vs. The Hellions + Feral!!!?? (+ Doug?) in the ultimate issue of the New Mutants' run in the Necrosha event. As a book whose characters have a history of tying up their loose storylines with angst-y, explosive deaths, this event is working the C-list cameos like there's no tomorrow and it is BETCHIN'. Expect blood, fire, resurrection, death, and Catseye! #fierce

Wonder Woman #39
Oh Gail Simone. Why are you so amazing? Evidently basically everyone in this book is a liiittle gay plus we get an explanation of Wonder Woman's new powers (wikipedia is failing me on this so much rgt now!) and a reveal of her newest nemesis! All in all, I think this is gonna be a rawkin' issue and, given Simone's penchant for working half-naked beefcake into her work, INFINITELY rewarding! #awesomecovertoo

X-Men: Legacy #231
DESTINY!!!!!!!!!!! Man, this week does not let up with the heavy hitter lesbians, does it? Destiny is far and away the best conceptualized, best written, and most mysterious lesbian character besides Batwoman (imo) and guess what: she's back! Expect three issues of tender moments and all-out brawls as Destiny works her way out of Selene's clutches to protect her daughter, Rogue. And, given Carey's consistent use of queer characters as guest stars, expect some cameos from your fav LGBT muties. #anissueofonlyanoleplz #DESTINY

Gotham City Sirens #7
I debate every month whether to add this title, but I've read some recent reviews that have been pretty positive and the three-issue panorama cover is BEAUTIFUL, so I'm giving Harley and Ivy the last slot in this week's Superqueeros. The focus has been on Harley for the past few issues, but now it's time for a little Selina and that is always #hawt!
