Daken: Dark Wolverine #10

It all starts (again) here! Daken is in the hands of new scribe Rob Williams and he's moved to the West Coast in his bid for WORLD DOMINATION. What surprises does this new chapter have in store? How will Williams compare with Liu? From the preview it looks like he's going to be a little more verbal than Marjorie, and I think that could be a very good thing. #newdirection #jumpingonpoint

Hellblazer #280

The DCnU has reminded me that Bling! isn't the only grumpy bisexual in the comic-verse: John Constantine of Hellblazer is the classic world-weary noir character, albeit with an dash of the arcane and a queer twist. This issue sees his niece coming to kill him and take his place visit. I wonder what will happen?

X-Factor #221

Did you read last issue?! The art was crap, but the cameo at the end??? AWESOME! And this issue... kind of drops that whole thing in two pages. And then 'Star stares at Rahne naked? This issue had better go somewhere amazing because the first few pages took me from crazy to disappointing to confused. I mean, nekkid preggers ladiez, FTW!, but the last two panels on page four make it seem SO RANDOM. I guess I'll just chalk it up to 'Star being all cute and test-tube-baby-raised-to-be-a-gladiator. I still love this book, no matter how bad the art gets or how random the nude wolf-ladies. <3

A preview I saw showed Anole. I'm not terribly interested in this storyline (yay, more lies?) but it at least seems to be good about including the whole of the X-community.

SuperQueeros! for June 1st, 2011

So, I figured because Monday was a holiday that comics wouldn't ship until tomorrow. But everywhere I check on the internet either doesn't mention a schedule change or says that comics are shipping today so... to the Queer-mobile!

Secret Six #34

They're back from H-E-double-hockey-sticks and the solicit says that Bane is being all emo/psychotic and question-y and his relationship with Scandal will be put to the test! But I read solicits every month for this book and let me tell you, they are often totally misleading. Rest assured that Scandal will appear in this book with lines and involvement in the story. And it'll probably be a good tale at that!

X-Factor #220

This is the Wolfsbane pregnancy issue! Plus, if you read the preview, it has what will forever be my second favorite Shatterstar panel of all time! Also there will be a story about a monster that kills church-goers? Eh, we're all reading it for soap-operatic-action, and it looks like Rahne and 'Star are going to finally bond... right before her womb is ripped open by a hell beast/cute baby! Hopefully Shatterstar will decapitate something!!!

CAMEOS:

X-Men #12

So it's that "First to Last" story that's a crossover between First Class and adjective-less? I'm not terribly intrigued by the premise, mostly because it seems ret-con-y and dull. Who knows, maybe it'll be awesome, but neither of the two realities are alternate ones so I'll be awaiting the wiki page. But Northstar totally makes a cameo! SWEEEEET!!!

House of Mystery #38

Did you see, did you see??? Tursig was a patron in the bar last issue!!! Which makes me hopeful that Lotus Blossom is about to go head to head with our favorite gay goblin soon! (There will probably be more heads involved in that "head to head" match-up, but I'll only be focused on Tursig. ;-P )

UPDATE: There wasn't any Tursig this issue (that I saw) but there was a little bit of Tel in Adventure Comics!

GREEKS WITH AMBIGUOUS SEXUALITIES: Yes. This is now a category of comic book.

Wonder Woman #611

Second to last issue!! We get answers, we get final showdown,... we get old Diana back???? This arc went from 'WTF??" to "Balls-mazing!!!" in one or two issues and hasn't let up since. All signs point to these last two issues being the biggest Wonder Woman moment since Maxwell Lord looked over his shoulder!

Herc #4

IMO this series is still finding its footing, but I'd be more interested in helping it if they restored some of Herc's invulnerability so he could go back to his old costume. Because, seriously, another fully-clothed dude fighting an Underworld succubus in an evening gown (here played by Hecate)? Yeah, I've read this story before.

Wolverine/Hercules: Myths, Monsters, and Mutants #4 of 4

Here we go! A holdover from the old status quo, this Wolvie/Herc crossover brings the Ruffians fighting a giant Sarlacc-type sea monster! Hero in a skimpy outfit and a villainous beast a cross between traditionally male and female imagery? Yup, this issue brings in the queerness!

Each week I scour the weekly solicitations for all that's queer in comic-dom. This week:

Dark X-Men #5

The last issue!!!! I know that Dark X-Men really don't have a place in a Heroic Age, so it is with teary eyes that I bid farewell to my favorite X-title of the year. O Dark X-Men, you had it all: bisexuals, spot-on characterization of A-list through D-list characters, depression, cold blooded murder, people made of pure psionic energy, pure psionic energy made of people, and even the Green Goblin! But I know that you're not going to let me down, Dark X-Men. I know that this, your last issue, is going to be full of the things we love: violence, mental insanity, explosions, and dashed hopes. Also, I hope you take that bomb or whatever it is out of Mystique because I'm gonna want her to be a free agent again. No offense Normie, but working with you she can't meet any nice girls. #gonnabeawesome

Secret Six #19

CATMAN-CENTRIC STORY! I love how all DC (not just Gail! INO!!!) loves their blond beefcake. And this next Secret Six storyline, all about Catman scratching his way through his checkered past, is going to be no exception. Add to it the socio-sexual Ragdoll, two lesbians, and one ripped, hairy daddy and you have the queerest comic on the stands today. Pick it up! #gailluv

House of Mystery #23

OMFG. Anyone who read last issue knows that this sh*t is. F***ed. Up. I CAN NOT wait to see the fallout from last issue! Fig is going to MURDER someone, and probably not figuratively! Also, this is a really casually queer inclusive title that ends up being one of the most gay-positive books I've read. Watching goblin geeks get rejected by goblin studs is super cute/real, and knowing that it's the set up for an awesome underdog story later in the year is just heartwarming. Plus, did I mention how every other character is a festering pastiche of childhood traumas? Yeah. Love this book.

Gotham City Sirens #10

The cover to this month's issue is beautiful! Also, this book has been getting some really positive reviews in the past issues. I know we've been paying attention to it since it started, and that I'm not really sure how queer this book really is, but it's funny, it's sexy, and it tells stories from the point of view of some the DCU's most interesting characters: the Bat-Villains. Riddler continues his guest appearance this month as he tries to help the Sirens NOT take the fall for a murder they've been framed for. Who are a villain's villains? Find out in GCS #10!

Dark X-Men #4

While the Dark Reign of the Marvel U collapses under the SEIGE of Norse gods, make sure you check out what Mystique has been up to during its final days! Now that Nate is in the body of Osbourne, who will stay loyal to the tyrant-turned-shaman? Who will turn tail and escape? And will the Dark X-Men finally unite and put the smack down on the force of benevolence known as X-Man? This title is rocking, so get on for the ride of your life!

POST-READING IT EDIT: OMG, I did not even see that guy COMING! Matt Fraction has mastered the cliff-hanger-character-reveal!

New Mutants #10

Now that we know why Illyana is here, and that the apocalypse she foretold is upon us, what will go down? And how will Dani's Hela-based "Valkyrie" powers play into this story and the up-coming SEIGE tie-in? And will Karma continue to kick @$$ now that the cast has expanded to an unwieldy eight twenty-somethings? Whatever the answers are, let's just hope Doug doesn't use his soul-speak anymore: he's become an omega-level Mary Sue, imo.

POST-READING IT EDIT: Oh Zeb Wells, you have some sexy, sexy concepts in that head of yours. New Mutants is now the American Idol of the X-Books! (In a good way!)

Batman and Robin #8

BACK STORY TIME! Thank god, because last issue was WAAAAY too confusing, especially the Batwoman parts! Stay tuned to this issue for the origin of Batwoman-in-a-Box and some massive bat-beatdown as Batwoman's memories return to her and the resurrected "Batman" corpse goes postal on our bereaved heroes!

Secret Six #18

This marks the end of the three issues of Secret Six/Suicide Squad/Blackest Night crossover. Keep your fingers crossed for Catman to lose his shirt and try to hold in your squees when you read the EPIC Amanda Waller/Vandal Savage team up!

Superqueeros! for January 13th, 2010

You know the schtick: I scour the solicitations each week for LGBTT-SAP...etc. characters and you guys make your pink dollar known. If you let me know when I've missed somebody, I'll edit the entry faster than Buffy on a sugar high!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #31

Buffy has super powers! Like Superman! And now she is going to go and save all of her friends! I don't know how I feel about BtVS bowing to such cliche comic book norms (from the preview of 32 we can see that she has gained, essentially, Superman's classic abilities). This will either enable Buffy to be more herself than ever before, or it will turn the book into Heroes Season 2 and 3: Everyone's So Powerful We Made Them Idiots so that the Plot-Required Inaction is Plausible. Until we find out, however, I'm going to sit quietly and loyally by this title to see where Joss's going, hoping for another "Gifted," but understanding that it might be as wanderingly mediocre as his Runaways run.

Dark X-Men #3 (of 5)

I love this book! This week Nate's gonna go crazy on Norman's punk-ass! Hopefully we're gonna see the team work together to match and better the Psionic Shaman's unparalleled abilities. Of course, this book has been throwing curve balls recently, what with the giant brain made of people, etc, etc, so who knows how this will turn out! #shirtlessboys

Nation X #2 (of 4)

YES!!!!!!!! Tim Fish on Northstar and his bf!!! Spotlight on Jubilee!!! Martha Johansson in a race against time! A Quentin Quire cameo AND an Anole cameo! Gambit doing something moody! This book has it all, people! Pick it up, read it, love it, and will it to your children. Plus, does anyone else think that the four kids on the cover would not make the most excellently dysfunctional team?

Secret Six #17

This is a continuation of last week's Blackest Night: Suicide Squad that I didn't cover because I didn't know the Six would be guesting. Evidently that issue was a little scattered, as this one may prove to be. But it's Simone, so check in for the requisite beefcake and lez-mance!

Catwoman #83

Way back in the day when this title was alive and not a resurrected Black Lantern title, Selina had a friend of the Sapphic persuasion. Be on the look out for her cameo in this "Selina vs. BL Black Hand: Grudge Rematch" one shot. EDIT: I'm not guaranteeing a cameo, just figuring there will be one.

Secret 6 #16
I have no idea what the state of the team is, since none of my comic book stores stocked issues 15 or 16, but I am disproportionately excited about the introduction of Black Alice to the team. I read up on her last week and she is KICK ASS. She's all tortured and dysfunctional and she switches from bad guy to good guy more times than Heroes season three! She's also insanely overpowered and pretty much just plain old insane: BEST. COMBO. Plus, Vandal or Jeanette is sure to be in this issue, so it's LGBT-legit too!


Dark X-men #2
If you read the preview you know that (1) Mystique acting as Jean Grey is an integral part to the plot of this limited series, (2) that kind of makes her whimsically macabre choice of cover identity a plot device, and (3) Mystique has added another tick mark in her tally of X-Men-whose-Mom-I-am. All of which means that this book is going somewhere. And hopefully that place will be dark, morally reprehensible, and warranting a continuing series. Also, HAWT!!

Nation X #1

The first time I read about one of these limited series about the X-characters I thought, "Ugh. Another inconsequential tie-in to sell more crossover books." But that's not what these stories are at all. Sure they end up having something to do with whatever the current crossover is, but the real point of these series is to explore and give the spotlight over to the B and C list X-men. And that means Queer Takeover (and quality character development, blah, blah, blah, ANOLE!!!!!). This issue alone has confirmed, and sometime in this series there will be a more Anole-centric story and even a story! That features his boyfriend! And Colussus is such a beefcake in his story this month! SWOON!

Dark X-Men #1 (of 5)

It's the one and only MYSTIQUE getting back to her roots and leading a team of inane male characters on a rampage across the Marvel Universe! It's the return of the twinkier version of Cable, Nate Grey! And it's the return of a pseudo-Jean Grey, and this time it's NOT Madelyne! Read the preview and be shocked. Read the book and be amazed. Dark Reign was awesome for the Young Avengers, and it's looking to be just as hot for the X-Men Mystique!
