SuperQueeros! for July 29th, 2015

There's not a lot "coming out" this week, so I'm dedicating this post to a book that slipped past my radar for a few months: Jem and the Holograms! SuperQueeros: all that's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual, transgender, and queer in comics today!

Jem and the Holograms #5
The new IDW reboot of the classic '80s TV show is kicking butt, taking names, and queering your childhood crushes! Specifically Kimber, Jem's biological younger sister, and Stormer, member of rival band "The Misfits", have been reimagined as a star-crossed super-couple. Kimber and Stormer started off the series with an adorable meet-cute, but as things started heating up between both the couple and their bands, the budding romance has come under heavy fire! (Feel free to insert all the "storm" and "timber" puns you want here.) This latest issue promises even more drama for the couple as Kimber finds out who sabotaged the Holograms' first show. Based on the cover it looks like ancient grudge is going to break into new mutiny! Will Skimber survive?

Plus, Batgirl #42 and Batgirl Annual #3 come out this week. Between these two books, Babs basically takes a tour of the DCU. She's bound to see 'queeros at some point!

SuperQueeros! for July 22nd, 2015

Marvel publishes a book that doesn't tie into Secret Wars, Titans clash, and ex-villains chat. Plus, is Justice League 3001 a queer title in a positive way, or a heteronormative way? SuperQueeros: all that's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual, transgender, and queer in comics today!

Uncanny X-Men #35
It's Mystique vs. Magik as my favorite queer mutant slips back into the title she's going to headline after Secret Wars. Will this issue lay the groundwork for that status quo?

Teen Titans #10
It's a clash of the Titans in Chicago! Which team will emerge victorious?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 10 #17
Angel and Xander bond over their mopey attitudes and statuses as ex-villains while Buffy and Spike navigate their new relationship. No big news on the Willow and Andrew fronts though... Also, survey: who in the Scooby gang haven't ever been a villain?

Archie vs. Sharknado #1
I am including this book because Kevin was on one of the alternate covers. Hopefully he and his beau will meet a creatively grizzly end!

Justice League 3001 #2
Okay, I am definitely a newcomer to this parallel future, but the premise is that the JLA gets reincarnated into future peoples' bodies. The "queer" part is that sometimes the old hero's sex and the new body's sex don't match, and sometimes the resulting gender expression is not what you would expect. The whole point of this team is to flip the standard formula on its head, but whether it addresses the queer aspects of its queering of the JLA (well executed or otherwise) is still unknown. So, check it out at your own risk?

Prez #2
So far the queers in this have been incidental, but I can feel in my bones that this book will bring the LGBTQueers!

SuperQueeros! for July 15th, 2015

Lockheed is tomorrow's kaiju today, Rachel finally meets her death, a Lumberjane chooses sides, and we get another chance to see Ms. America Chavez in Battleworld. Plus: Catman! SuperQueeros: all that's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual, transgender, and queer in comics today!

Years of Future Past #3
As shown in the AMAZING cover, Lockheed distracts the Sentinels while Mystique and the X-Men flee. But when they find shelter in the ruins of Coney Island, they also uncover some dark secrets...

Rachel Rising #35
It's been thirty-five issues and now it's time: Rachel is about to meet Ma Malai, the angel of death. Will she survive the experience (again)?

Lumberjanes #16
Jen must choose a side! Will it be Rosie? Or Abigail?

Secret Six #4
Remember in 2011 when you watched that first episode of Suburgatory and you were like, "How can cynical city-girl Tessa survive in the cut-throat wilds of suburbia?! How can Ryan Shay be allowed to wear a shirt ever? And how many episodes do I have to wait before Ryan experiments with a boy?" Well Secret Six is basically exactly like that, except that Tessa is five of the most fabulous supervillains in the DCU and Ryan is played by the canonically bisexual Catman! Plus, someone hid all his shirts!

Siege #1
Abigail Brand rules the Shield, the only thing keeping Doom's Battleworld from certain Doom Apocalypse destruction! And since the Shield is the last place we saw Ms. America Chavez, that means that we get to see the fate of A-Force's most awesome former member! (Hint: Her fate is conscription.)

Book of Death #1
Valiant starts its latest crossover this week, so there's a chance that we'll get to see Kris from the Harbinger Renegades!

Harley Quinn #18
The Gang of Harleys tangles with Captain Strong!

SuperQueeros! for July 8th, 2015

Secret Wars has been killin' it these days, am I right? Not to be outdone, this week the Archie universe is rebooting too. Can the all-new Riverdale surpass Convergence and reach the heights of Earth-1610? SuperQueeros: all that's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual, transgender, and queer in comics today!

Runaways #2

Canon queer-vampire-with-fireworks Jubilee is the number one reason to pick up this book, but not the only one. There's her ex-gf is Pixie, Cloak and Dagger's new powers, the awesome new members of their gang, and the fact that this book is fracking awesome!

Archie #1
Archie gets an update, as does the rest of Riverdale. But what does Kevin Keller look like in a post-#SCOTUS universe?

Secret Wars 2099 #3
I forgot that Hercules' bisexuality is canon! Follow his future adventures as an Avenger in the year 2099.

Earth 2 Society #2
Getting all The Authority on us, Superman takes the political reigns to put Earth 2's society on the right track. But how will Green Lantern and the rest of the Society react?

New Suicide Squad #10
Death visits the team!

SuperQueeros! for July 1st, 2015

Happy Canada Day! Now, let's see what comics are celebrating with some... SuperQueeros: all that's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual, transgender, and queer in comics today!

Midnighter #2
Following up from last month's AWESOME issue #1, there's a new deadliest person in town. After the God Garden heist, civilians have been getting accidentally augmented. Looks like Midnighter will have to do some clean-up...

Chew #50
It's time to fight the vampire. 'Nuff said.

Years of Future Past #2
The X-Men have escaped the concentration camps and are fleeing from the Sentinels! But will Mystique help them out, or turn them in?

X-tinction Agenda #2
Karma, Rictor, and the rest of the Genosha crew raid the X-mansion in order to get a mutant healer. But the mansion's residents are not going to cooperate, which means... X-men fight!

I'm also only including A-Force #2 because I'm PRAYING that Ms. America Chavez isn't dead. Fingers crossed for a final page reveal! Also, Archie's Double Digest #262 might have some Kevin Keller cameo, if that's your jam.
