SuperQueeros! for February 27th, 2013

Ultimate Comics' non-linear storytelling finally wends its way back to the hottest of superqueeros, the Young Avengers get their second issue, and the two best X-teams slouch their way toward X-termination! Plus some books about gays who aren't mutants or whatever in this week's... SuperQueeros: all that's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual, transgendered, and queer in comics today!!
Ultimate Comics X-Men #23
We finally get the 411 on what happened to Colossus! After he murdered a guard in the mutant concentration camps we lost all narrative contact with the metal hunk, but this week we see how he and Storm both survived the Nimrod attack and went their separate ways. I'm hoping that Colossus gets picked up by Jean and taken to her mutant city in Asia!

Young Avengers #2 Now
Will Hulkling's EvilMom kill everyone?? Has she already killed his boyfriend's family??? And what's up with this foe of Loki's that shows up? Are they talking about Miss America Chavez?

Astonishing X-men #59
Northstar and Kyle are back from their honeymoon just in time to help Karma and the team as they hurtle toward X-termination!

X-treme X-men #11
Speaking of X-termination, Dazzler and her team are one issue closer to that fateful crossover event! But before they do they have to decide: will they side with or against the Nazis?

Artifacts #25
The Angelus teams up with the Witchblade and the Rapture to muscle the Darkness into restoring the natural order of the universe! Doesn't sound like she'll have much time for that gorgeous cop she's got on lock...

Teen Titans #17
So I guess Vibe isn't Bunker's bf... maybe we'll find out who is in this issue!

Justice League Dark #17
E'erbody is still trapped on a world with no magic. Don't die, very-old-Madame-X!

Squaresville (and Other YouTube 'Mo's)

Just a quick shout-out to two of my favorite series on YouTube (besides the WillSon segments from Days of Our Lives, that is!):
The first is Squaresville, a series that just started its second season and uploads a new episode every Friday. Squaresville is a comedy that follows a group of nerdy high schoolers, most specifically best friends Zelda (Mary Kate Wiles) and Esther (Kylie Sparks), as they navigate everyone's favorite culture touchstone of Bildungsroman, high school. But if suburban high school drama is comedic fodder 101, why should you check it out? Because the actors are awesome, the wit is sharp and nerdy, Zelda's boy friend (Wayne played by David Ryan Speer) is totes dreamy AND someone in the main cast comes out in the first season's finale episode! Plus, the president of the D&D club is really into phallic handles on his replica swords and might have a crush on Zelda and Ester's neighbor Percy?

Secondly, if you haven't already heard, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries is CONSUMING the 'Tube with its awesome dramatics. Based on Pride and Prejudice, the central conceit of LBD is that heroine Lizzie is an aspiring vlogger whose life takes a turn for the troubled shortly after she starts sharing her life with the world. Oh, and they have a pretty major queer character: Darcy's BFF, Fitz. The story is in its endgame right now, so do yourself a favor and catch up on the 80-something episodes (5 minutes long, posted on Mondays and Thursdays) and the 50-ish spin-off episodes (posted on Tuesdays and Fridays by ancillary characters on their own YouTube channels) so that you can join me in cheering on romantic comedy's original supercouple! Oh, and did I mention that most of these fictional characters have accounts on basically ANY social media site you can think of? The multi-platform storytelling of this show is AMAZING!

SuperQueeros! for February 20th, 2013

It's a farewell to Vertigo's longest running, queer-lead comic and a possible hello to Bunker's boyfriend? Plus the stalwart classics: Batwoman, Wonder Woman, Kevin Keller, and the studs of Chew, X-Factor and Locke & Key in this week's... SuperQueeros: all that's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual, transgendered, and queer in comics today!!

Hellblazer #300
That's right, Vertigo is closing shop on its longest running series, the tales of bisexual occultist John Constantine! It's promising to be a retrospective on his 25 year history, so we might get a shout out to the idea that John has had (off-panel) boyfriends. Fingers crossed, and au revoir!

Jusitice League of America #1 and Justice League of America: Vibe #1
And it's time to say hello to the New 52 version of Vibe! It's been heavily speculated that this version of Vibe will be gay, and Bunker's boyfriend. If there is going to be confirmation, I imagine one of his two debut titles this week would be the place to do it!

Chew #32
There's a gay dude in your milkshake, brah.

Wonder Woman #17
Wonder Woman, an old God, and a New God must join forces to save the prophesied baby demigod. This is the comic connoisseur's comic book of the moment!

Batwoman #17
The Flamebird has risen! Batwoman and her sidekick, Flamebird, are gonna put the smack down on Medusa this issue with the help of Wonder Woman! BLAMO! #excited

Life With Archie #27
Kevin Keller needs a campaign manager. With everyone starting new jobs, who in Riverdale will have the time to help out their pal?

X-Factor #252
The war with the Hell Lords continues!

Locke and Key: Omega #3
Duncan Locke's nieces and nephews, both possessed and in control of their own bodies, are finishing their preparations for the "Last Dance".

SuperQueeros! for February 13th, 2013

Cancellations, new love, new teammates, and returning bi-monthly mega-titles! It must be time for... SuperQueeros: all that's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual, transgendered, and queer in comics today!

X-treme X-men #10
As you have no doubt heard, this is the beginning of the end of one of the best Marvel Now! books on the shelves today. Thankfully they're getting the chance to wrap up the long term plot threads, so Evil Xavier better watch his back! But unthankfully, this, the home of the first hottest couple in comics today (Herclett) is about to also birth the second hottest (if straight) romance just in time for cancellation. That's right, say hello and goodbye to... Dazzclops!

Supurbia #4
If you've checked out the preview for this issue you know that Ruth gets her robot-butt back in the game as she takes a blood-soaked Hella under her metal wing. But what about Agent Twilight? Is he just going to be relegated to playing dress up with Green Nightlight? I thought we were getting some Night Fox drama!

Morning Glories #24
Reading these issues when they are collected into trades really helps keep the continuity fresh in your mind... The only thing that I can remember for certain is that Jun is hot. And maybe his twin brother is dead? And there are two Jades? And is Irena evil? And is Ike going to kill his father? Let's hope they put a sumamry at the beginning of the issue!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 9 - Freefall #18
I love that Billy's main job in the Scoobies is reading and not dying: He and I have all the same interests! Also, I love that the lack of magic in the world is making the Key sick. But I hope she doesn't die! Oh, and Illyria is in this issue, so, duh, it'll totes rock.

Demon Knights #17
What did happen to Madame X? And why do we care about Jason Blood again? Meh, Exoristos and Shining Knight cutely and angst-i-ly squabbling are all the squee I need in a comic!

True Blood #9
This same werewolf story has been going on for almost a YEAR!

SuperQueeros! for February 6th, 2013

New month, new search-term heavy standard opener! Oh, and there are seven awesome, queer-inclusive titles out this week, so read on to get the 411 on this week's... SuperQueeros: all that's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual, transgendered, and queer in comics today!

Fashion Beast #6
Oh, hey, did you guys know that Alan Moore wasn't just publishing a queers-versus-Harry Potter literary mash-up these days* but was also giving us an 80's-tastic, cross-dressing Beauty and the Beast/Christian Dior mash-up (source)? Unfortunately (at least for me) I haven't been able to find it digitally... But hey, be my superqueero and give me a shout if you pick it up IRL! Or better yet, if you see it in your virtual(ly local) comic book shop!

*(see League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Volume III: Century)

EDIT: Fearless Defenders #1 came out this week, and so did its dreamy archeologist Dr. Annabelle Riggs! But does anyone know if her crush on Valkyrie will be requited? Or if I can yenta her into going out with Karma?
Kevin Keller #7
Does our hapless-in-love Kevin K have a boo?! That's what Ronnie concludes in this issue of the ever-adorbs hit series about "Archie's Pal" and Riverdale's resident 'queero! (Seriously, "Archie's Pal"? Do all Archie-verse covers have to have sexual undertones???)

#notcomplaining

Stormwatch #17
Is everyone frakkin' dead?! Apollo and Midnighter were jettisoned into the Bleed, this is the Carrier's final issue, and what happened to Jenny Quantum and Hawksmoor??? Or, yeah, and Angie is evil?!?!!? What the Funion????!?

All New X-Men #7
Mystique is back!!!!!!!!! And this time she's feeling up on the nubile Mr. Summers! #livingthedream

X-Factor #251
So, Wolfsbane is back with her son! But Evil Strong Guy and Jezebel teleported everyone to fight six overlords of Hell... But M and Darwin (also back) were left behind in the rubble of the XFI building! I... have absolutely no idea where this story is going, but I can guarantee on thing: M is pissed, and someone's going to pay. #modusoperandi

Earth 2 #9
Dr. Fate! A whole spate of new characters! I'm still waiting for them to better develop the ones they have/bring back Sam!!

Fairest #12
Rapunzel's past misdeeds come back to haunt her! Look at that cover! That looks pretty haunt-y!
