Hey Betches!

Anthony's back at home in Florida so we're back to Skypecasting. :(

There were so many comics that came out in the past few weeks since we casted so we had a lot to cover! From Batgirl and Wolverine and Jubilee to the conclusion of Buffy Season 8 and the latest in Avengers: Children's Crusade

Let us know what you think! Plus, any comics you think we missed in our coverage let us know! Send us a tweet @ScarletBetch or by email at scarletbetch@gmail.com

The Fantastic Four No More

So, FYI, if you haven't looked at the internet today and you want to know which member of the Fantastic Four dies tomorrow, then take a google at "spoilers which Fantastic Four member dies?" and you will totes get your answer. Feel free to react (SPOILER FREE) in the comments section! Mine's below the cut:

Superqueeros! for January 26th, 2011

All the queers in comics this week, at your fingertips. And if I miss one, let me know!

New Mutants #21
Zeb Wells' two years writing on New Mutants has been about getting to this point: Elder Gods are attacking Earth, the X-Men (and everyone else) has failed at keeping them at bay, and it's up to Karma to activate humanity's only hope, Professor X's son Legion, without turning on his villainous tendencies as well. This is what Illyana came back to prevent, this is what this book has been building up to for two years, and this is the last chapter before Age of X! Definitely a must read.

X-Men: To Serve and Protect #3
Storm becomes a pseudo-Thor again! Blink gets a story!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kitty looks for a cure at the Baxter Building! And Chris Yost's AWESOME (I know, I too am shocked!) Rockslide/Anole story enters it's second half! Seriously, these X-Men short story collections are some of the best X-stories out there, and they almost always include an LGBT hero. Plus, Anole and Rockslide are so awesome together and I think that this story, along with Young X-Men, is going to be a defining story for their relationship. This is the book I'm most looking forward to this week!

Chaos War #5
The final chapter of Chaos War! Expect a cameo from Northstar as he and the rest of Alpha Flight join the final fight against the Chaos King. I haven't been following this mini, but I hear that it's a great story that revitalizes the deities of the Marvel U, which sounds like a superheroic task in and of itself. Whatever the case, any book with Alpha Flight or Northstar in it has to be amazing. It's called the Canada Effect, and it means you should pick this title up. ;)

GLAAD Announces Nominees for Media Awards

GLAAD (the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) has announced its nominees for its 2011 Media Awards. Every year a series of comic books gets nominated for their presentation of queer issues, characters, and storylines. The following are the nominees:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer by Scott Allie, Brad Meltzer, Joss Whedon (Dark Horse Comics)
Fogtown by Andersen Gabrych (Vertigo/DC Comics)
Veronica by Dan Parent (Archie Comics)
X-Factor by Peter David (Marvel Comics)
Young Avengers: Children's Crusade by Allan Heinberg (Marvel)

I am legitimately excited about these nominees, and I'm actually stumped as to who to vote for! My unending love for Billy and Teddy has me yearning to support Young Avengers: Children's Crusade... but the bi-monthly publication has me less than thrilled. On the other hand, Buffy the Vampire Slayer has taken some pretty incredible loops and featured not only long-time lesbian Willow, but had Buffy take a sapphic swing as well. Not enough can be said about Peter David's writing on X-Factor. Rictor went from being a character on the fringes on my radar to being one of the marvel heroes I'm most invested... not just because of his relationship with Shatterstar, but the fact that he doesn't have powers. Veronica definitely deserves a nod for its introduction of Kevin Keller (who'da thunk I'd be excited about an Archie book?) and I can't wait for the Kevin Keller mini-series out later this year. I'm unfamiliar with Fogtown... but now I have one more book to start reading!

Who are you hoping wins?

Superqueeros! for January 19th, 2010

Even though Monday was MLK Day it looks like comics are coming in on Wednesday instead of Thursday. Just don't be surprised if your copy of Buffy #40 is delayed a day!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #40
THIS IT! THIS IS THE END! THE LAST ISSUE OF BtVS SEASON 8!!!!!!! Last month Buffy changed the world. Now it's time to see what that means. Is Willow alive? How about sane? And was this really Buffy's "Last Gleaming"?

X-Factor #214
This is the second X-Factor issue this month (sweet!!!) and it's an anit-bullying themed comic. It'll be interesting to see where this story goes. Will Rictor or Shatterstar have something to say, or are they some of those superqueeros who were never bullied while growing up in a gang/in test tubes on Mojoworld? If BtVS is the one title you buy this week, X-Factor is the other one title you buy this week!

SuperQueeros! for January 12th, 2011

Well boo: there's only one new comic featuring a superqueero this week. The good news? It's Scandal Savage's (and Gail Simone's) Secret Six!

Secret Six #29
The Secret Six appeared in Action Comics last week trying to kick Lex Luthor's butt, but something tells me they were less than successful. This week they take the fight back to their own title and try to teach the mogul of mayhem a lesson! Sounds like a lot of fun, though I have to say, the Secret Six symbol looks more like a tough-but-lovable biker with a curling locket of strawberry hair rather than a skull branded with a damning "6". At least Scandal looks killer on the cover!

Jean Grey Joins Line-Up for Marvel vs Capcom 3

Betches rejoice for the dream of dreams of gay fanboys worldwide has come to pass. Jean Grey will be making her Versus debut as Phoenix in the upcoming fighting game. While I've been holding out hope for an Emma Frost character (think about it... switching between psychic form and diamond form), Jean Grey alone is enough for me to pick up this game to add to my library.

Some highlights that we can see from the video include Phoenix being a character with flight capabilities like Storm and Magneto which bodes well for good air combos. In addition we get a look at some pretty interesting supers including a healing aura that returns health as you deal damage out, a standard ranged burst of phoenix energy, and the big mama of her repertoire: Dark Phoenix. If you have 5 bars of supers stored up and receive a killing blow. Jean will instantly resurrect as a souped up Dark Phoenix version with full health. This health bar depletes regularly, so you have a limited time as Dark Phoenix... but this is awesome.

SuperQueeros! for January 5th, 2011

Whoops! As you can see, I've been in NYC this week/weekend, so I wasn't able to get around to compiling Superqueeros until today! So this one is going to be short and sweet and AWESOME:

Avenegrs: Children's Crusade #4
YAY!! This title only comes out in odd numbered months, so it's always an awesome week when we get the next installment of the Billy & Teddy heavy ACC! This month we find out who Wanda's enemies are and the Avengers fight the Young Avengers (some more). But the real hook is "Teddy and Billy in a comic book!" #OTP #cutest #awww

Torchwood #6
Didn't I say that this was going to be awesome? Pre-CoE Torchwood investigates a haunted mansion and Pre-Torchwood Jack has a sexy solo adventure! #GetIt!

X-Factor #213
Spoiler Alert? The cover clearly identifies which team member is leaving (for a bit), but who's joining the X-Factor family? Also, now that Shatterstar has found out who the real father of Rahne's baby is expect Drama with a capital "D" and that rhymes with "G" and that stands for "Gayest Issue This Week"!

NB: Other notable comics out today are Steel #1 and Lady Death #1. If you know who those characters are, then you're saying "Awesome!" right now, and if you don't, here's a link to wikipedia, young'un. ;)

Scarlet Betch Episode 34: "Hi Greg Land!"

Happy New Year betches!

Hope everyone had a great weekend and stayed warm #hayo. This week, Anthony was visiting me up in New York City and obviously, we had to record a video podcast to commemorate the event! Anthony and I share some spoils of a queer comic book scavenger hunt, shout out X-men: To Serve and Protect and Wolverine: Father, and discuss the latest developments in the continued saga of the Wonder Woman reboot a.k.a. Stirrup Pants McGee.

Oh, and we also give Greg Land grief... but I feel like we do that in every episode. #artistsrule #tracersdrool
