Glee Liveblog! 105

SuperQueeros for 9/30/2009

Today I'm starting a new weekly tradition: SuperQueeros! Each week I'll bring you a summary of which new comics are featuring LGBT(etc.) characters! Now, I'm no Kiden Nixon, so I may miss one or two. If you spot an omission, please let me know in the comments section and I'll correct it tout de suite!

This Week in Comics:

Gotham City Sirens #4 - Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn have always blipped my gaydar, and, though the wiki articles on Ivy and Harley don't specifically say they have an overtly romantic relationship, there's definitely been a lot of Sapphic speculation (especially on my part). What say you, betches? Are these two the Mystique and Destiny of the new century?

Justice Society of America #31 - So Obsidian was an egg. And, from what I can tell from the preview released by DC, he's now a mortally-wounded ex-egg under the knife in a building being rocked by a superhero brawl. Anyone reading this? Is our boi more than just a fetchingly-colored piece of furniture?

EDIT: I just picked up this title and can confirm that Obsidian is still, literally, a background character. "Egg-sidian" is sitting pretty under an incubator lamp, waiting for the JSA Flash to hatch him, while Mr. Terrific is under the knife. Either way, this is not a good issue for black people.

Scarlet Betch Episode 3: "X-tra Long Edition!"

The wait is over! Jason and Anthony are back at it with recaps on Glee's newest episode "Preggers", how the bat family is better off without its patriarch, artists who never cease to deliver (the good and the bad), smexy smexy typefonts, Young Avengers sans Heinberg, how Lesbian characters can carry their own title, and much much more!

Remember to comment below! We'd love to interact with you! And send in any requests, tips, or advice you have to scarletbetch@gmail.com.

Glee Liveblog! "All the Single Betches!"

Jack Kirby's Dreamland Starring Astro Boy

Heirs to comic book royalty Jack Kirby have sent 45 notices of copyright termination to Marvel, Disney, Sony, 20th Century Fox, Paramount, Universal, and other studios who hold media-licensing rights to Marvel characters. The notices expressed intent to regain the copyrights of certain characters as early as 2014. Representing the heirs are Toberoff & Associates, the firm that helped Jerry Siegel's heirs reclaim a share of Superman's copyright from DC last year.

What characters are mentioned in the notices have not been disclosed. Kirby is credited with co-creating such Marvel staples as The Fantastic Four, Thor, The Hulk, Iron Man, Silver Surfer, Doctor Doom, and Captain America. The termination notices could allow for Kirby's heirs to a) reap in a share of the profits from the films featuring said characters, and/or b) shop the characters to other studios.

While it's too early to speculate what could come of all this, I'm a blogger, and giving my unwarranted opinions on topics I'm not entirely read up on is sort of my thing. The hopeful fangirl in me, that is, the one who sat through two Fantastic Four movies, likes to think that if the heirs win their claims, they'll sell the characters to studios that will better serve Kirby's vision, or that competing franchises will give audiences the ability to choose what movie/cartoon/comic we enjoy rather than simply footing the bill for something we all hate because it's the only opportunity we'll get to enjoy our heroes. Comic book media doesn't have to suck.

Jamie Madrox cast in Glee?! And tune in for our Glee Liveblog!

Ok, so the title of the post might be a shade misleading, but that's the first thing I thought when I saw this amazing cover of the Glee hit song "Don't Stop Believing" of Journey fame. Sam Tsui, a first year at Yale brings us this great compilation where he records over himself to achieve that wonderful perfectly blended sound. I'm not usually attracted to guys younger than myself, but Sam is absolutely adorable. And of course, now I feel like a major creeper, being the 22 year old peeper. Sam also has the best Michael Jackson medley that I've ever heard. You can check it out after the jump.

Also, check back tonight for Scarlet Betch's first liveblog event of tonight's episode of Glee! For our readers not on Eastern Standard Time, be wary of spoilers. And not the Stephanie Brown variety.

Gendered Fantasy - FF: Dissidia

So I've traditionally been a nintendo whore. I went from SNES to N64 to Gamecube to Wii. But recently I've put on my big boy gamer pants and branched out to other systems. Bought an Xbox360 (of which half of the games I own, I'm too scared to play) and most recently a Playstation Portable (PSP for the laybetch).

The only reason why I bought a PSP was to play the absurdly fun, unapologetic heap of fan service that is Final Fantasy: Dissidia. For those of you unfamiliar with the game, FF:Dissidia is at its core a 3D crossover fighting game featuring a metaplot which brings together iconic characters from the immensely popular Final Fantasy franchise. Ever get into a heated debate on whether Squall could kick Cloud's ass? Or perhaps comparing the ego of Sephiroth and Kefka? This is your game.

Disney's New Business Plan: Scare Little Kids, Take Parents' Money

Walt Disney Studios has announced that in collaboration with filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy 2, Pan's Labyrinth) they will be launching Disney Double Dare You, a new production label to create new animated films with "chills and thrills for audiences of all ages". Del Toro, who is currently directing both Hobbit adaptations, will serve as the label's producer and occasionally direct certain projects.

Nightmare Before Xmas wasn't bad. I could probably watch it in theaters two or three more times.

Boss Mouse is taking no prisoners. First the comic book nerds, now the Hot Topic goths. Who's next? Gamers? Hipsters? Vegans? Whatever the hell people who still listen to Kid Rock call themselves?
